Bystanders rescue man who crashed into Florida lake

A man suffering a medical issue behind the wheel lost control of his vehicle, causing it to plummet into a Florida lake.

Bystanders near the Ocoee lake saw the man veer off the road, flip over then violently land upside down in the water.

At least 15 volunteers immediately dove into the water to help the man unconscious behind the wheel around 12:40pm Saturday.

Dramatic video footage of the rescue displays the panic that ensued as volunteers worked to flip the wrecked vehicle and recover the man from it.

Towards beginning of the video a woman screams ‘There’s a baby, there’s a baby!’ after seeing a car seat, however later it is revealed there was no child in the car after all.

The man behind the wheel was eventually brought out and laid on nearby grass.

Off duty nurses on the scene then begin to perform chest compressions on him and check his pulse as they wait for paramedics.

Soon after deputies and EMT arrive.

‘I just heard a boom and I look out of the corner of my eyes I see the car airborne, then I saw the water splashing out of my rearview mirror,’ one witness said.

About five minutes into the video a man says ‘Yeah we’ve got a pulse. He’s breathing’ as the victim lays sprawled on the grass near the lake surrounded by EMT.

One last check: When deputies arrived they scanned the car again to make sure there were no additional passengers stuck inside

Later police confirm there was no one else in the car but him.

The clip ends with the victim being taken away on a stretcher.

‘The car was upside down all the way, so it took like six to seven people to actually push it over,’ Sunil Kulkarni, who filmed the video said to WFTV.

‘It was intense. Like, everybody had stopped what they were doing and was tending to the guy to bring him back,’ he added.

It is not clear what condition that man is in, Deputy Chief Steve McCosker said to the Orlando Sentinel.

‘The Ocoee Police Department would like to warmly thank all citizens involved for their involvement and sense of civic and humanitarian duty,’ McCosker said following the incident, thanking the Good Samaritans that stepped in.

‘That was the great thing. Everybody — from all walks — came together … to save this man,’ Kulkarni said.
