Caitlin Clark breaks her silence on injury scare

Caitlin Clark has joked that she looked ‘really soft’ after going down injured and screaming in pain during the Indiana Fever’s win over the Atlanta Dream.

Clark sparked injury fears on Monday night after appearing to roll her ankle at State Farm Arena, with TV cameras capturing her in clear agony on the floor.

After Indiana staff checked her over, the 22-year-old was able to return to her feet and continue with the game, helping her team claim an 84-79 victory.

In her postgame press conference, Clark revealed she suffered a sprained ankle on the night, but played down the severity of it despite insisting it was painful.

‘Yeah I saw the replay… I looked really soft,’ she joked. ‘It wasn’t that bad of a turn, but it hurt.

‘Sometimes you just need to give yourself a second, if you’ve ever sprained your ankle it just kind of stings for a little bit. They were like, “Do you want to go in the back?” I’m like, “No, please just tape right here, let’s go, we’ve gotta keep going and get on with the game.”

‘I’ve done it a few times, so it is what it is. You’re not a real basketball player if you haven’t sprained your ankle. That’s when you know.’

Clark finished the evening with 19 points, seven rebounds, as many assists and two steals as the Fever got past the Dream.

Kelsey Mitchell led the way for Indiana with 29 points and seven rebounds while Aliyah Boston managed a double-double of 14 points and eleven boards.

It has been a sensational start to life in the WNBA for Clark, who set another record in Saturday’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx.

The rookie phenomenon became the fastest player to reach 500 points and 200 assists in the history of women’s professional basketball just three months into her Fever career thanks to her 23 points and eight assists against the Lynx.

She also helped set a new Atlanta attendance record on Monday night, with 17,608 fans flocking to State Farm Arena to watch her take on the Dream.
