Caitlyn Jenner’s kids still call her ‘dad’ and her 20 grandchildren refer to her as ‘Boom Boom’

Caitlyn Jenner’s children call her ‘dad’, despite her transition, and her grandchildren call her ‘Boom Boom’.

The 70-year-old reality star – who was formerly known as Bruce Jenner before undergoing gender reassignment surgery – has a whopping 19 grandchildren, and has said that they call her ‘Boom Boom’ to avoid confusion when it comes to gendered titles.

Revealing this on Thursday night’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, Caitlyn was quizzed by campmate Kate Garraway about how many grandchildren she has.

She responded: ’20 in December.’

Asked what they call her, she added: ‘They’ve come up with Boom Boom. It kinda stuck, it was easy for them to say.’

But the former Olympian – who has six children of her own, and helped to raise Kris Jenner’s four children during their marriage from 1991 to 2015 – doesn’t mind her kids still calling her ‘dad’, because she says she’ll ‘always’ be their father despite her transition.

She explained: ‘My kids all call me dad, Kendall asked me first and I said “dad”, I’m your dad and I’ll always be your dad till the day I die.

‘But what they’re really good at which shocks me all the time is when they’re talking about me, “My dad she…” and it’s tough to change the pronoun in the middle of it.

‘Bruce raised them and Caitlyn is enjoying their life with them.’

Caitlyn has Burt, 41, and Cassandra, 38, with first wife Chrystie Jenner, sons Brandon, also 38, and Brody, 36, with second wife Linda Thompson, and daughters Kendall, 23, and Kylie, 22, with Kris.

Brody – who is known in his own right for his role on structured reality series The Hills and its recent reboot The Hills: New Beginnings – admitted he won’t be watching Caitlyn on I’m A Celebrity… when he was asked during a coffee run on Wednesday.

Brody – who has recently split from his wife – shrugged his shoulders and said: ‘I don’t even know what that is.’

The media personality – who previously revealed the pair ‘don’t have a great relationship’ – insisted that while he won’t be tuning into the famous British survival series, he ‘hopes she’ll be OK’ during her time in the Australian jungle.

Brody was quizzed: ‘Have you been watching Caitlyn in the jungle?’

‘I don’t even know what that is’, the former KUWTK star sharply responded.

The hunk was later asked whether he thought the former decathlete would be able to battle through the tense challenges on the show after she broke down on Sunday’s opening episode.

Brody answered: ‘I think so, I don’t know… I hope so’, before heading into his car with his beverages.

The Los Angeles native has been vocal about their strained relationship, revealing on a recent episode of The Hills: New Beginnings: ‘My dad and I have never really had a great relationship. Not having my dad at the wedding was, it was a bummer.

‘Through all the ups and downs that my family has had, my mom has always been the rock.’

Brody was left disappointed when Caitlynn – who came out as a woman in April 2015 – failed to attend his Bali wedding to then-partner Kaitlynn Carter last year due to work commitments.

Earlier this week, a source claimed they haven’t spoken in a year.

A source told The Sun: ‘It’s never been the easiest relationship. For a long time, Brody had to watch his dad play happy families with the Kardashians and it hurt, because Caitlyn was never around for him so Brody felt that he didn’t have much of a father.

‘But when Caitlyn transitioned, Brody regarded it as a fresh start – he believed his dad’s talk of being deeply unhappy for years, and under the control of Kris, so Brody wanted to give it a go.

‘Brody tells friends that as crazy as it all was, he did try to support his dad and wanted to be there for him – even though it was an emotional rollercoaster for him too. But that support was never a two way thing.’

Earlier in the week, Caitlyn’s partner Sophia Hutchins revealed how shocked she felt watching the ‘positive’ star break down on I’m A Celebrity.

Sophia, 23 – who has been dating Caitlyn since July 2018 – confessed how ‘helpless’ she felt watching the sporting star struggle to come to terms with her surroundings during the first episode of the hit ITV show.

Speaking during Wednesday’s Lorraine, the entrepreneur admitted she felt like ‘getting on a plane to Australia’ to find out what was going on because it was so unlike Caitlyn to be upset.

Discussing watching the reality star on the show, she said: ‘It hasn’t been easy to watch at all. When there’s someone across the globe you feel helpless to begin with. When you throw in these challenges and see her crying, it’s been gut wrenching.’

Sophia, who lives with her partner in Malibu, explained that so far the experience has been ‘difficult’ to deal with, but insisted Caitlyn ‘knew what she was getting herself in for’.

She also noted that her appearance in the jungle has been in the works for a while, adding: ‘ They reached out early this year, Caitlyn did it back in 2003 [the U.S. version] so she kind of felt like she knew what she was signing up for.’

Musing over why she thinks Caitlyn was initially struggling, Sophia said: ‘I think the British version is harder than the U.S, definitely more challenging and maybe because it’s been 15 years as well! [since her last appearance on I’m A Celeb].

On her boundless energy, she added: ‘Oh my god, you are telling me. I live with it! And the energy doesn’t stop. Every morning it’s like, “Let’s get up, it’s another day to go and take on the day” and it’s really infectious, you’re right.’

Sophie admitted she thinks Caitlyn brings a lot of fun to the group so seeing her crying really shook her and revealed many people close to her felt the same way.

She elaborated: ‘When I saw her crying the first night, I was just in shock. Everyone that knows her who I’ve spoken with was sending me these messages saying, ‘Is she okay, this isn’t the Caitlyn we know?

‘The Caitlyn we know is super excited, super positive, super energetic, rarely sheds a tear. So we were all freaked out by that.’

On what she would be missing the most, she said: ‘Well food. I think food is a big one. We have two dogs, two Labradors, and I think she will miss them. Obviously family. In Malibu we have our life. It’s like every morning wake up, work out, eat breakfast, work, and kind of go about and do your day.

‘There it’s like, “Oh my god, what challenge am I going to face today?” There is no structure, no routine. You’re missing out on that part of your life. On top of that, you don’t have basic things that you would be accustomed to having at home.

‘She probably misses the things we take for granted every day, having a shower… but I think she will pull through.’

She went on: ‘I think that Caitlyn represents so many different things to people based on how old they are. So Caitlyn, or Bruce Jenner, represents that sporting career, that amazing athlete to one generation of people.

‘Then there is another generation of people who remembers her as the dad, the parent of her successful, wildly famous children…

‘On a show like this she can showcase all of her massive talents and she can have this massive fanbase that she’s established over the decades to represent this new voice which is her representing the LGBT community on this big show. I think that’s really exciting.’
