Cal Wilson dies age 53: Tragedy as one of Australia’s best known comedians dies after a ‘short illness’

Beloved comedian Cal Wilson has died at the age of 53.

The New-Zealand born TV personality passed away on Wednesday after a short illness.

She was surrounded by her friends and family at Sydney’s Prince Alfred Hospital.

She leaves behind her husband Chris and son Digby. 

Wilson had also worked as a radio and television presenter, actress and author, and rose to prominence in Australia.

‘Cal’s generosity, talent and friendships have been constant in the Australian comedy scene for the last twenty years,’ her management company Token Artists said in a statement.

‘Cal was loved by her family, friends, fans and peers and a huge hole has been torn in the heart of our community.’

Wilson had moved from Christchurch in New Zealand to Melbourne in 2003 where she appeared on the sketch show Skithouse.

She landed her own Netflix stand-up special while also appearing on shows Spicks and Specks, Would I Lie To You and Good News Week. 

The 53-year-old had performed at the Melbourne Comedy Festival 14 times and most recently co-hosted The Great Australian Bake Off.
