California cabin used in a Hollywood movie set is on sale

The Wild West lives on in an enchanting cabin in California on sale for only $120,000.

The 150-square-foot cabin in Pioneertown, a roughly two-hour drive east from Los Angeles, looks like something straight out of Tombstone or Bodie with its ‘false front’.

The common architectural technique uses a vertical facade to mask a gabled roof and was popular in the Old West because it gave structures that were quickly and often haphazardly built the appearance of permanence.

But the tiny home, which proudly sports a lone red star on its false front, has in fact had a storied history and was used as part of a Hollywood film set during the 1940s.

The wood-framed shack for sale sits on a 2.65-acre lot, has room for extensive development or renovation, and offers endless opportunities to ride off into the sunset.

Though those keen on buying should plan on either renovating the home or living as the settlers did, as in primitively.

At present, the property lacks a bathroom and kitchen.

A buyer would also need to install a well in order to pump water to the home.

Pioneertown was developed as a film set and its ‘Mane Street’ features cinematic, albeit kitschy, Western-style buildings.

It is in a desert, sports an exceptionally hot climate year-round and has around 350 permanent residents.

The New York Times noted in May 2016 that the sleepy town is experiencing something of a ‘renaissance’ and branded it the ‘new Old West’.

The nearest large settlement is Palm Springs, a resort town of about 50,000 people that lies roughly 30 miles to the south.

The home is also only a few miles outside of Joshua Tree National Park, which is famed for its desert landscapes and the unique trees that give it its namesake.
