Call The Midwife star Helen George teases return of legendary characters for the BBC show’s finale – including much-loved Miranda Hart

Helen George has teased the return of famous faces for Call The Midwife’s final ever episode.

The actress, 38, who portrays Trixie Franklin, admitted that it would be ‘amazing’ to have some old characters back on the show.

Among the favourites to appear on the BBC drama is Miranda Hart.

The star played nurse and midwife Chummy between 2012 and 2015 – but left after not being able to ‘birth the schedule to make it work’, she said at the time.

Speaking to RadioTimes about the possibility of a reunion with past characters, Helen said: ‘We’ve talked about that, wouldn’t it be nice?

‘Like at the end of Titanic, all the characters come and it’s just beautiful. It would have been amazing to have everybody.’

Teasing reunion plans ever further, she continued: ‘Look, you’ll have to wait and see. But it’ll be nice at some point – maybe at the end of the very, very last series – to get some of the old faces back, for sure.’

The BBC recently confirmed that the show will return for two more seasons, keeping it on air until at least 2026.

Fans of the show will be delighted as bosses – who had already announced series 13 – have now commissioned a further two.

Filming for the next series of the much-loved drama is due to begin in spring.

The show is set in the 1950s and 1960s in London’s East End – and focuses on a group of midwives in a nursing convent.

Backing Miranda’s return even more, Call the Midwife’s creator Heidi Thomas previously confessed that the star would be at the top of her wish list of characters to bring back.

Heidi said: ‘I still hope that one day we will come back to Chummy.’

Leonie Elliott recently confirmed her exit as nurse Lucille Robinson after six years in the role.

The actress, 34, took to Instagram to share snaps from her final day on set as well as an emotional goodbye to viewers.

It comes after the television star appeared to hint at the news in January as she shared her plans of finding ‘purpose’ in 2023.

The beloved character last appeared on the BBC series in the second episode of the current series after her character returned from Jamaica having been diagnosed with crippling depression.

Leonie shared a glimpse of a clapper bored decorated with pictures of herself as a good bye gift.

She wrote:  ‘Thank you all for embracing Lucille and rocking with me on this journey, it is with a heart full of love and appreciation that I embark on pastures new.

‘Having spent six years on a truly wonderful show, with a fantastic team I have fallen deeper and deeper in love with Lucille.

‘I feel honoured to have represented the pioneering Windrush generation and their incredible impact on British society.

‘I would like to say a MASSIVE thank you to the brilliant cast and out uber talented creative team: Heidi Thomas, Pippa Harris and Annie Tricklebank.

‘Thank you again for all your support, it is hugely appreciated. Super excited for what’s coming next.’

In January, the actress seemed to have implied the move as she revealed her plans for the New Year ahead.

Sharing a long list she hoped for more ‘mindfulness and sleep; as well as finding her ‘purpose’.

Fans had been concerned for the character after her husband Cyril bought her a ticket to the country earlier in the season.
