A ute driver has rescued three school children after a bus was swept into a crocodile-infested river as it navigated through floodwaters.

Josh’s heroic act was met with widespread praise with eagle-eyed social media users noticing he had a case of Great Northern beer in the back seat during the ordeal – and calling for him to be given a year’s free supply.

The bus driver was taking three students to the Batchelor Area School when the group got bogged down as they drove across the Finniss River Crossing 100km south of Darwin on Tuesday.

The coaster mini-bus was seen submerged in fast-moving waters with vision of the aftermath going viral on social media.

The territory’s CDC public transport service is under investigation after the terrifying incident.

Footage shows Josh’s soaked ute after the ordeal with water streaming out of the open doors.

‘Great Northern Brewing Co. need to offer him a years free supply of beer for his heroic act,’ one said.

Another wrote: ‘Thank goodness you were there Josh, I don’t know you but I would buy you a Great Northern any day. Hero, hope the ute is ok too.’

A third commented: ‘Amazing Josh, still getting chills from our chat yesterday. Didn’t even think about it. Straight in. B***** great mate,’ said another.

Others added: ‘I hope someone pays for [Josh’s] ute’ and ‘I hope the children are OK what a huge scary ordeal for them to go through.’

Meanwhile, a Department of Education spokesman said no one was injured in the incident.

‘The students and the driver were assisted by a passing motorist to exit the bus and were taken to safety,’ he said.

‘A second bus transported the students to the school.

‘The school is providing support to the students and their families.’

Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics warned other drivers that local flooding can make roads impassable with road conditions able to change quickly depending on the season (pictured, the bus bogged down in water after the rescue)

The CDC is in discussions with the Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics to understand how the accident occurred.

A DIPL spokesperson said the water was higher than what the driver anticipated.

They said safety was important and warned other drivers that local flooding can make roads impassable depending on the season.

The spokesperson also said the agency would review the river crossing and see if there are any improvements needed for the roadway.
