Camel coats have become Meghan’s signature style

The Duchess of Sussex showcased her ongoing love of camel coats when she stepped out in a £3,000 style at the Invictus Games.

Meghan, 40, wore the tobacco-coloured cashmere coat from Max Mara on two occasions, including her arrival to the event in The Hague last Friday.

She wore the coat over a £2,100 white Valentino blazer and matching £1,100, and later wore it with a monochrome trouser and top ensemble to meet athletes.

The Max Mara design, which Meghan previously wore in New York, is part of a sizeable collection of camel coats which have been dressed up and down by the Duchess over the years.

Miranda Holder, who is the Founder of the Feel Good Fashion Coach, told FEMAIL a camel coat is a ‘true wardrobe hero piece’ that adds ‘instant understated luxury to any look’.

She said: ‘As Megan effortlessly demonstrates, a camel coat looks equally stylish when thrown over active wear as it does when pulling together a more formal tailored look, and everything in between.

‘Megan has an impressive collection of chic overcoats ranging from high street favourites such as Reiss to designer classics like MaxMara.

‘The Duchess looks her most radiant in colours from an Autumn colour palette and naturally gravitates towards these biscuit shades which compliment her warm skin tone.

‘Camel is a hard-working neutral, that can be worn tonally for a muted but chic feel or contrasted with jewel brights such as fuchsia or scarlet.

‘A coat in this colour is an effective way to add a little nonchalant, understated elegance to a look, which may be important to Megan during public appearances with more senior Royals, but above all it pulls any outfit together beautifully, evokes luxe and sophistication and should be an integral component in every fashionistas wardrobe.’

The Duchess of Sussex has long been a fan of camel coats and was spotted in the style long before she met Prince Harry, according to the experts behind royal fashion blog Meghan’s Mirror.

A favourite from her pre-royal days was a MaxMara ‘Manuela’ coat, which she wore when heading out and about with friends in Toronto.

When it came to one of her early royal engagements – church on Christmas Day at Sandringham in 2017 – Meghan reached for a different camel coat.

This time the Duchess stepped out in a £1,000 wide collar camel wrap coat by luxury brand Sentaler, which tapered in around the waist and flared out at the hem.

The coat made another appearance again when Meghan ‘shrobed’, or draped, it over her shoulders at the WellChild Awards in London.
