Cameron Diaz credits therapy as the secret to her successful nine year marriage to Benji Madden.
The actress, 52, who shares two children with the Good Charlotte rocker, 45, sat down with brother-in-law and Benji’s twin Joel Madden on Wednesday’s Artist Friendly podcast episode for a rare interview about her relationship.
Lauding therapy, she said: ‘It’s what we depend on, so you have that commitment to work on it’ adding ‘it keeps her and Benji from doing ‘the same thing over and over.’
She said therapy encourages them to ask ‘Why didn’t it work? How can I make it work? What’s my part? What’s the other person’s work?’
The Back In Action star said therapy had taught the pair to be more ‘self aware’ and ‘a little bit more equipped to hopefully come out with a different outcome’.
‘You can’t be in a marriage and have a family if … both people are not 100 percent every day. Nobody can be 99 and the other one be 100.

“[It helps us] either resolve something or create a new understanding of a new process together,” the Good Charlotte member said.
Joel, who has been married to Nicole Richie, 43, since 2010 revealed he and the reality star are also in therapy which he likened to ‘going into the gym and learning new moves, building on strength.’
The Charlie’s Angels star and the musician tied the knot in 2015 during a romantic ceremony at her home in Beverly Hills.
In late 2019, the pair welcomed their first child together via surrogate: a daughter named Raddix, who will turn five on December 30.
Earlier this year in March, the two announced that their second child – a son named Cardinal – had also been born.
At the time, Cameron – who doesn’t post photos of her children for their privacy – jumped to Instagram to share the special news.
Alongside a drawing that had, ‘A little bird whispered to me,’ written towards the top, she wrote to her followers, ‘We are blessed and excited to announce the birth of our Son, Cardinal Madden.’
‘He is awesome and We are all so happy he is here! For the kids safety and privacy we won’t be posting any pictures- but he’s a really cute ☺️. We are feeling so blessed and grateful.’
In conclusion, the mother-of-two added, ‘Sending much love from our fam to yours. Best wishes and Good Afternoon!!’

A source told People in March shortly after the announcement that Diaz feels ‘beyond lucky’ to have welcomed their second child.
‘They were always hoping for a second baby, because they love being parents,’ the insider told the outlet.
‘For years, Cameron wanted to be a mom. She gets very emotional when she talks about the long journey to motherhood. She feels beyond lucky to now have two children.’
