Camila Mendes declares she is ‘#donewithdieting’ on Insta

Riverdale’s Camila Mendes has teamed up with Project Heel—a non-profit company that offers support to those with eating disorders—to share her story.

The 23-year-old actress, who has been open about her struggles with food, took to Instagram on Monday to declare that she is ‘done with dieting.’

Back in October, Camila shared with her followers that she grew up not only watching her older sister struggle with an eating disorder, but that she also ‘suffered from symptoms as well.’

Project Heel is pushing the narrative that ‘thin is not the same as healthy.’ And Mendes agrees.

‘I’m done believing in the idea that there’s a thinner, happier version of me on the other side of all the tireless effort,’ she said in her post.

‘I’m sick of the toxic narrative that the media consistently feeds us: that being thin is the ideal body type. A healthy body is the ideal body type, and that will look different for every person.’

She explained how a visit with a naturopath—a doctor who believes in holistic medicine— triggered an epiphany.

‘At some point in my life, I allowed my obsession with being thin to consume me,’ Camila said. ‘Somehow I had stripped myself of all the pastimes that brought me joy, and all that was left of me was my anxiety around food.’

The Virginia native went on to encourage her fans to share their stories surrounding food, diets, and unhealthy habits.

‘Our minds can get so contaminated with endless images of perfection, and even if you don’t suffer from an eating disorder, it can’t hurt to incorporate a little body positivity into your routine,’ she said. ‘Take care of yourself in every way that you can.’
