How to Rescue Your Smartphone from Water Damage

In such situations don’t despair, even if you have dropped your smartphone into the sink, toilet, or bathtub, you may be able to save it.

Here’s how to get water out of your mobile phone:

  1. If your smartphone submerges into the water, remove it from the water immediately. The longer it stays in, the more water will seep into the crack around your mobile’s screen or into various inlets.
  2. Turn your phone off and leave it switched off.
  3. Remove the protective case of your smartphone.
  4. Open the back of your smartphone and remove the battery, SIM card, and microSD card.
  5. Use a cloth or paper towel to dry your smartphone. Do not rub the phone dry, because it could accidentally push water into the phone’s more sensitive parts. If your phone was completely submerged, you might try vacuuming around the phone’s cracks and openings to suck more water out.
  6. Try avoiding baking your phone in the sun. Keep it in a cool and dry place.
  7. The old rice trick is kinda dubious,  but silica gel packets have proven to be much more effective. Fill a plastic zip-top bag with silica gel and subsume the phone in the bag. Leave your smartphone in the bag for at least 24-48 hours.
  8. After drying your phone completely, switch it on. If it doesn’t turn on right away, try charging it to see if that makes a difference.

If your phone turns back on, keep an eye on it over the next few days, as sometimes certain features of the smartphone won’t work the way they used to.

What Not To Do

  1.  If your phone was off when you dropped it in the water, leave it off. Switching it on while wet could short the electrical connections and cause irreparable damage.
  2. Don’t press any keys, unless to turn the phone off, as this can help water penetrate further into your mobile phone.
  3. Don’t shake or blow on your smartphone, as again this could enable further water ingress and damage.
  4. Don’t take your phone apart because this could invalidate any insurance or warranty that you currently have. You could do more harm than good unless you know exactly what you’re doing.
  5. Don’t heat up your device or cool it down, extreme temperatures can damage your phone in many other ways or could further help the spread of water inside your device.

What’s Next, if this Doesn’t Work

Good for you, if the above-stated hacks worked in your favor. But if you still struggle with your water-damaged smartphone then get it fixed by a good mobile repairing service center.
