Police flocked to Canada superstore parking lot this weekend after receiving calls about a suspicious human body in a car, only to find it was a shockingly realistic Halloween skeleton sitting in the front seat.

The hilarious incident took place in New Brunswick on Saturday after Rachel Schmidt, of Fredericton, and her 11-year-old son purchased a very realistic-looking skeleton at a local yard sale for $2.

The Halloween decoration, named Jeffy, didn’t fit in the trunk of her car so she thought it’d be funny to strap him into the front passenger seat.

On the way home, Schmidt stopped by a local grocery store and when she returned to her car she was shocked to see it blocked by police cruiser after somebody called the cops out of concern.

The officer approached her and said they needed to inspect her vehicle.

‘Then it click, “Oh my gosh, it was that Halloween decoration,’ Schmidt said to CTV Atlantic.  ‘(It was) just a silly Halloween thing, but they really had to look at it, just to make sure.’

After the officer checked out the yard sale buy she was let go.

‘I just hope I didn’t scare some poor person who walked by and thought there was actually a skinned human in my car,’ she said.

Schmidt shared the bizarre incident on Facebook in a post that’s gone viral racking up over 4,000 likes and over 2,000 shares.

‘First of all… to anyone getting groceries at the superstore tonight..and saw what appeared to be a skinned human belted into a car. MY APOLOGIES… clearly someone thought it was real..I hope they aren’t scarred for life,’ she wrote.

‘Secondly… to the Fredericton police.. I apologize! But good on you for taking it seriously and investigating to the full extent and surprisingly me by surrounding my car as I exited the grocery store,’ she added.

She then explained she loves Halloween and purchased the skeleton because the previous owner had made it themselves, upgrading a simple Costco skeleton by covering it in saran wrap and fake blood.

Despite the police incident she said she’s still ‘laughing my a** off’.

Angela Palmer, the previous owner who created Jeffy, was shocked to learn her creation looked so real it led to police intervention.

‘I almost didn’t put it in the yard sale. I was going to put it in the trash, actually I thought: “I’ll throw it in there, somebody might want it,”‘ she said.
