Candice Bergen went on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live wearing a ‘Free Melania’ sweater and dished on her date in the 1960’s with Donald Trump, calling him a ‘douche.’
Bergen, who played a witty, hard nosed television journalist during the decade long hit series Murphy Brown (1988), went on Andy Cohen’s late night talk show Wednesday and dished on her way back when date with Trump.
Cohen implored Bergen to expand on her dalliance with the now President of the United States after it was brought up during one of the show’s question-answer games, played along by fellow actress Reese Witherspoon.

Wearing the Free Melania sweater, a nod to memes about Melania Trump’s marriage to Donald, she explained her date with the man who would become commander in chief, while she was in college.
Bergen was 18 at the time, and Trump had called her dorm to ask her if he could take her out for dinner.
‘He was wearing a burgundy three piece suit, with burgundy patent leather boots, and he was in a burgundy limousine,’ she explained of his color coordinated game.
Cohen asks if there was any chemistry or a kiss on the date. She deadpanned: ‘No, I was home very early,’ and ‘There was no physical contact, whatsoever.’
The host then asks, if she found him alluring or a douche, to which she responds: ‘He was a good looking guy and a douche.’
Cohen then makes a quip saying ‘She wears this ‘Free Melania’ shirt with some authority here.’

Fans found Bergen’s recollection of a young Trump, while wearing her sweater, rather amusing.
One fan of the show took to Twitter to say ‘Candace Bergen calling Trump a douche (in a free Melania sweater no less) just made my life.’
Another said her description of Trump as a ‘handsome,’ douche’ sums up ‘most straight men these days.’
The ‘Free Melania’ meme came about on Trump’s Inauguration Day when the president bounded up the steps to the White House leaving her to behind and appeared to snap at her after during the ceremony.
