CARABAO CUP SEMI-FINAL DRAW: Arsenal and Liverpool avoid each other as Premier League giants battle to reach Wembley final

The Carabao Cup semi-final draw has been finalised, with some blockbuster games set to be played at the turn of the new year.

The semi-finals take place across two legs – the first in the week commencing January 6 2025, and the second in the week of February 3 2025. 

After their seven-goal thriller with Man United, Tottenham won 4-3 at home to advance to the quarter-finals to face Liverpool.

The Reds sunk relegation strugglers Southampton to win 2-1 at St Marys in interim boss Simon Rusk’s first game. 

Arne Slot’s table-toppers will travel to north London, as they play their first semi-final leg away from home.

A Gabriel Jesus hat-trick led Arsenal to a comeback 3-2 win at home to London rivals Crystal Palace on Wednesday.

The Gunners face Newcastle in the semi-final, who cruised past Brentford at St James’ Park to win 3-1 in the only quarter-final matchup that was settled by more than a one-goal margin. 

Mikel Arteta’s side will host the Magpies at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg in January, before travelling to St James’ Parka month later.

Liverpool edged Chelsea in the 2024 Carabao Cup final to win 1-0 after extra-time, with a 118th-minute winner from Virgil van Dijk stealing the spoils for the Reds. 

Victory over Spurs would send them to the final, giving them the opportunity to win back-to-back EFL Cup titles for the first time since 1984, when they won their fourth in a row.
