Carjackers ‘murder’ American, 41, near Mexico-Texas border entry

Texas dentist, 41, is shot dead by carjackers after refusing to hand over his keys as he waited in traffic at the Mexican border to head home for the holidays

An American dentist waiting in line to drive over the border from Mexico has been killed during a botched carjacking Monday night.

Óscar Manuel Reséndez was returning to his home in Mission, Texas, after traveling to the northern border city of Reynosa where he was visiting his family ahead of the holidays.

The 41-year-old dentist, who runs a practice in the state of Tamaulipas, was stuck in a traffic jam as he awaited to cross the McAllen-Hidalgo International Bridge when multiple gunmen approached his SUV, according to Mexican news outlet La Prensa.

The suspects allegedly demanded the keys to Reséndez’s vehicle before an argument ensued.

Witnesses told Mexican newspaper Hora Cero that the victim stepped out of the vehicle to confront the men and was shot once. 

The assailants abandoned the scene before several motorists tried to help Reséndez as his body laid between the two lanes. 

Paramedics from the Mexican Red Cross attempted to save his life but he was declared dead at the scene. 

No arrests have been reported.
