Carlos Alcaraz breaks silence on injury scare after rolling his ankle on eve of US Open

After suffering an injury scare right before the US Open, Carlos Alcaraz reassured fans that he is healthy enough to compete.

The Spanish world No 3 was practicing ahead of the final Grand Slam of 2024, which begins on Monday when his right leg buckled.

Speaking to the media after the incident, the 21-year-old explained how he cut his session short out of caution ahead of the tournament.

‘I think it is okay,’ Alcaraz said. ‘You know, I just stop my practice just for precaution. I didn’t feel comfortable enough to keep practicing just in case if everything is going to be worse.’

‘But, you know, after a few hours later, I still feeling good, you know, my feet, so tomorrow I will try to be practicing again 100% without thinking about it, but today I’ll take care about it.’

Carlos Alcaraz will be competing in the US open next week after suffering an injury scare

The injury occurred as Alcaraz made a routine attempt to play a backhand.

After taking a seat, Alcaraz held his ankle before staring at the floor and shaking his head. After calling his practice prematurely, Alcaraz clarified that was the cause of his frustration.

‘I wasn’t worried at all for my US Open participation,’ said the Spaniard. ‘Obviously I was angry because I don’t want to stop the practice, just to respect [Francisco] Cerundolo, as well.’

‘I don’t want to stop any practice. I want to practice, I want to get better, I want to get ready for the tournament.’
