Carlton star lauded as ‘great role model’ after coming to the aid of an elderly woman with valiant act

Jacob Weitering has been praised by members of a community after he rose to the aid of an elderly woman.

According to 7News, the lady is understood to have had a fall, with the Carlton vice-captain, who was in his car at the time leaping to action to help the lady.

She is understood to have incurred ‘substantial laceration injuries’ after falling on her walker.

The defender, who recently married his partner Isabel Kahan in a surprise ceremony in November, is understood to have driven the lady to the Alfred Hospital.

The woman’s grandchild said: ‘I am not a Carlton fan, but I am a fan of Jacob Weitering.’

‘My grandmother had a fall on her walker, resulting in substantial laceration injuries.

Weitering had seen the lady fall over on her walker before helping her and taking her to hospital

‘Jacob happened to be there in his car. He got out and assisted her, lifting and carrying her and her walker into his car and took her to the Alfred Hospital.

‘My grandmother said he was very calm and friendly.

‘Jacob you are an absolute legend who went above and beyond to assist a stranger in need. My family is grateful.’

The 27-year-old enjoyed an excellent season with Carlton, enjoying above-average career numbers this across the 22 games he played for the Blues.

Weitering was also handed his maiden All-Australian jacket at the end of the season with Carlton also locking him down on a new six-year deal, which will see him stay at the club until the end of 2031.

Seven News presenter Jacqui Felgate also provided a message from a bystander who had been present as the incident unfolded.

‘Hi Jacqui, a quick shout out to some incredible people in our local Bayside community this morning,’ the message says.

‘I was proud to see the quick action and care of everyone when an elderly gentleman had a medical episode while we were enjoying our breakfast at the local cafe.

Weitering was hailed by some on social media as a ‘great role model for young supporters’

‘Everyone banded together to make sure he was OK, offering first aid and care.

‘A young nurse responded immediately, as did a lovely lady, who sat who stayed with him until the ambulance arrived.

‘The four young Hawthorn footballers who were sitting next to him called the ambulance, waited with the gentleman and did not leave the scene until he was stable and left for the hospital.

‘As a mother of two teenage sons and a teacher in our community, I was proud to see this kindness and care given by all.’

One individual took to social media to lump praise on Weitering, writing: ‘Well done Weiters, you are a great role model for all young AFL supporters.’
