Carrie Johnson dons £485 pink floral backless dress from Hamur

Carrie Johnson cut an elegant figure as she donned a £485 pink floral backless dress from Harmur to watch her husband Boris give his final speech as Prime Minister today.

The politician hailed his legacy by pointing out he ‘got Brexit done’ and oversaw the ‘fastest vaccine rollout’ during his farewell speech outside Number 10 today.

Meanwhile Boris’ wife stood alongside other members of his family, including his sister Rachel, and MPs as he put a brave face on his departure saying ‘this is it, folks’.

The piece has been recently slashed in the sale to a price to £194, and is described online as ‘a stunning new style for this season.’

Meanwhile she wore her blonde locks down in a relaxed, wavy style, and opted for a dash of matching pink lipstick for the outing.

Since she came onto the scene as Boris’ girlfriend in 2018, Carrie has caught the eye of keen fashionistas across the UK for her chic and bohemian style.

Yesterday, British TV and celebrity stylist Miranda Holder told FEMAIL that Mrs Johnson has this year opted for a ‘wardrobe more appropriate to her position, both as a woman in the public eye and on the arm of the Prime Minister’.

Miranda also noted how Carrie avoided new designer outfits in favour of rented pieces or bargain buys from the British High Street, including from H&M.

‘We have witnessed Carrie Johnson’s elegant style evolution, as she has slowly but surely ditched the more casual preppy and sometimes even bohemian looks in favour of a wardrobe more appropriate to her position, both as a woman in the public eye and on the arm of the Prime Minister,’ said Miranda.

‘She has no doubt taken several leaves out of the Royal style book, having kept her hemlines and necklines suitably demure.

‘She has favoured impactful block colour and developed her own signature style repertoire of sophisticated but feminine silhouettes with just the right touch of “no nonsense” about them.

We witnessed her put rental fashion company Hurr firmly on the style savers’ map, and saw her ditch high ticket designer labels for H&M this summer, indicating that the comfortable fashionista is not afraid to mix things up.

‘Her new striking image has been successful in capturing our attention and indicates confidence and poise amongst the political crowd, and I’ve no doubt we’ll continue to monitor her wardrobe post No10.’

Earlier this morning, Carrie walked out of the famous black door with Boris, who went on to deliver a stark message that Britain must continue supporting Ukraine against Vladimir Putin’s aggression, despite the economic pain.

In a barb at MPs for dramatically ousting him, Mr Johnson said: ‘The baton will be handed over in what has unexpectedly turned out to be a relay race. They changed the rules halfway through, but never mind that now.’

Mr Johnson also sparked laughter by comparing himself to a ‘booster rocket’ that was being jettisoned, and thanked staff for tolerating his wayward dog Dilyn.

‘I will be offering this government nothing but the most fervent support,’ he said. ‘We will get through it, we will come out stronger the other side… it is time for us all to get behind Liz Truss.’

Mr Johnson was forced to bring forward his address due to bad weather expected to affect his flight to see the Queen in Scotland.

He is due to see the monarch, 96, at Balmoral in the Cairngorms at 11.20am – and Royal aides are famously sticklers for timings.

Mr Johnson will be followed swiftly into the royal residence by Liz Truss, who will officially be asked to form a Government as prime minister.

Boris’ premiereship was a period of enormous change for the mother-of-two, with the couple entering Downing Street in December 2019 after a sweeping election victory and moving into Number 11.

It comes as Carrie shared an emotional Instagram post featuring her children Wilf and Romy to mark Boris’s final day in power.

The Prime Minister’s wife posted an image online of the family entering the familiar front door of No10 ‘together for the last time’.

This suggests that Mr Johnson is not expecting to return to power, despite clamour from his supporters for him to run again in future.

She also thanked staff in Downing Street and the PM’s country retreat, Chequers, for their kindness, especially towards the children.

Carrie gave birth to the couple’s first son, Wilfred, at the end of April 2020, followed by their daughter Romy, now aged eight months.

Over her husband’s time as Prime Minister, Carrie has swapped her puffy jackets, colourful knits and dark paisley prints for a brighter and more trend-focused look.

Feminine florals and striking patterns have been deployed with skill, creating just enough of a ‘look at me’ effect.

Hemlines, by and large, have been fashionably long — but with her slender figure, she has been unafraid to wear shorter styles occasionally.

Mr Johnson, his third wife, their daughter Romy, now eight months, and Wilf were believed to be staying at Chequers, the country house of the PM in Buckinghamshire before the end of his premiership.

The Johnsons are believed to have left Downing Street in August when removal trucks were spotted parked outside No10, aides then confirmed that work was ongoing for the ‘transition’ to the next leader.

The PM is allowed to take away any of the furnishings he paid for himself as part of the controversial revamp of the residence over No11 – which could even include the £800-a-roll gold wallpaper.

The outgoing Prime Minister has been house-hunting for a new marital home in Dulwich Village for his family, it’s been reported.

Their house in Camberwell is now listed for sale for £1.6million, £400,000 more than they paid for it.

Not short of cash, the couple’s reported budget of £3million should be more than sufficient, as properties in leafy Dulwich Village have sold £1,820,887 on average in the past year, according to Zoopla.

The couple bought the four-bedroom Victorian semi in Camberwell in July 2019 as Mr Johnson became Prime Minister. They made the purchase after having to leave their flat nearby when neighbours called the police after reports of explosive rows.

However, the Johnsons have spent no time in the property after moving into Downing Street. The couple stand to make about £400,000 if they get the asking price for the house, bought for £1.2million.

They made thousands of pounds from letting the property during their time in Westminster. The register of MPs’ interests says the Prime Minister enjoyed a rental income of at least £10,000 a year.

A source told The Sun: ‘Carrie and Boris are looking for somewhere they can put down roots away from the glare of central London.

‘Now they have Wilfred and Romy, a family home with a large garden is a must. That’s exactly what Dulwich can offer.’

Carrie then changed into a striking yellow top from J Crew as she attended a Violence Against Women and Girls event at the Kigali Convention Centre in Kigali, Rwanda, on June 23. She teamed the sleeveless polka-dot blouse with a full skirt in a playful blue and green print and simple nude court shoes

Mr Johnson will travel on his last day as Prime Minister to Balmoral to official resign to the Queen after giving a farewell speech outside No10 on Tuesday at 8.30am.

The Queen is not travelling to London to appoint the new prime minister, it was announced as she will conduct the ceremony at Balmoral – raising fresh concerns for her health.

It will be the first time in her 70-year reign that the Queen will not receive a new prime minister at Buckingham Palace. She has appointed all 14 of her previous PMs there but her recent mobility problems mean she will remain in Aberdeenshire, where she is on her summer break.

Mr Johnson will, accompanied by senior officials, be flown to Scotland on the smaller of the Government’s official planes.

After formally tending his resignation to the Queen, earlier in the day then the new PM, he will make his own way home from Balmoral, a nine-and-a-half hour journey by car, 45 minutes by private jet or 90 minutes by scheduled British Airways service from Aberdeen.
