Casey Donovan reveals thrilling new career move as she takes on an iconic role: ‘I grew up watching the movies’

Casey Donovan is taking on an iconic new role after being cast as the lead in the  Sister Act stage musical.

The singer is playing the part made famous by none other than Whoopi Goldberg in the 1992 film, as she steps into the dancing shoes of Sister Deloris Van Cartier.

‘It is huge, it is exciting, it is all of the things,’ Casey told the Daily Telegraph this week. 

‘It is nerve-racking but I tend to rise to the challenge and I am looking forward to challenging myself in the best possible way’ she added. 

‘I grew up watching the movies, it was the movie of my childhood.’

Sister Act opens at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney in August and the Regent Theatre Melbourne in November. 

‘Disco diva Deloris’ life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a murder’ the musical’s official website reads. 

‘Placed under protective custody she is hidden in the one place she shouldn’t be found – a convent! 

‘Encouraged to help the struggling choir, she helps her fellow sisters find their true voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own. ‘

Things are also going well for Casey in her private life too, as she’s happily in a relationship with girlfriend Renee Sharples.

‘I’m in a very happy secure place in my life,’ the singer, 35, told The Daily Telegraph.

She went on to say she has ‘never been happier’ and her relationship has made her feel more confident.

‘It has taken me to find the love of my life and to kiss a few frogs – and go through a very big part of my life that was challenging – to find confidence and happiness within myself.’
