Cat and mouse ‘enjoy the sunshine’ next to each other after days of rain

A cat and a mouse have struck up an unlikely friendship in China because of their love for the sunshine.
The pair of animals were spotted relaxing in the sun next to each other at a stadium in Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province in eastern China.
The scene was filmed by a resident today after the city had 10 straight days of rain.

Footage released by Zhejiang News shows the moggy and rodent sitting on a running track in a ray of sunshine.
Initially, the cat was looking around, but after noticing the mouse next to it, the feline approached the tiny companion to check it out.
The cat then returned to its original position to unwind in the warmth.
A few seconds later, it extended one arm to gently touch the rat, which moved slightly; but the cat eventually decided to enjoy the sun in peace with the rat on its side.
According to local newspaper Qianjiang Evening News, the video was shot at around 2pm today by a resident known as Mr Chai at the Zhejiang All Citizen Sports Centre.

Mr Chai said he saw the two animals sitting in the sunshine together ‘super calmly’ on his way to work.
He added that he did not know whether the two animals had met by chance or the mouse had been brought there by the cat.
The 30-second clip has attracted thousands of comments and more than seven million clicks in a matter of hours on Weibo, the Chinese equivalent to Twitter.
Many viewers compared the pair to cartoon characters Tom and Jerry.

One typical comment joked: ‘The finale of Tom and Jerry is revealed. Frenemies bathe in the sunshine together. Century-long vendetta ends like this.’
Another viewer said: ‘This is the real-life Tom and Jerry.’
Some people however suggested that the mouse was being monitored by the cat after being snared by it.
One such readers analysed: ‘The rat must have been caught and played for a while by the cat. As soon as it moved, the cat would start playing it again.’
A fourth reader appeared to disagree as they argued: ‘It’s possible that this cat is yet to find out that mice are food.’
