Cate Blanchett beams at West End opening night

She’s one of Australia’s most famous exports in Hollywood with two Oscars to her name.

And now Cate Blanchett, 48, looked the picture of style as she stepped out to support the West End opening of Girl from the North Country at Noel Coward Theatre on Thursday night.

The Carol actress slipped into a pair of grey tweed wide leg trousers for the stage event which hung low on her hips as she posed for photos on the red carpet.

Looking in jovial spirits, Cate teamed the statement trousers with a cream silk shirt which she opted to tuck in.

The screen siren kept to her androgynous style by pairing the look with a long-line black black which draped over her statuesque frame with aplomb.

Swapping her usual stilettos for a pair of quirky flats, Cate accessorised her look with an eye-catching necklace and tortoise shell specs while her chin-length blonde locks were worked into a tousled style.

It appeared that Cate was on hand to support her former co-star Ciaran Hinds – who she starred opposite in Irish biographical crime film Veronica Guerin in 2003 – who is starring in the run written and directed by acclaimed Irish playwright Conor McPherson.

The beauty wasn’t the only famous face to show support for the stage show which has moved following a sell out critically acclaimed run at The Old Vic in summer 2017 which features the music and lyrics of Bob Dylan.

Also attending the event included former Doctor Who star Christopher Ecclestone, Robert Lindsay, Jeremy Irons and Sinead Cusack.

Meanwhile, Cate’s outing comes after she was named Cannes Film Festival Jury President for 2018.

In a statement released last week, the Thor: Ragnarok star said she was ‘humbled’ by the ‘privilege and responsibility’ of presiding over the prestigious film festival.

The Wrap reports Cate is only the 12th female president in the film festival’s 71 year history.

The Blue Jasmine actress is the first female president since Jane Campion presided over the jury in 2014.

In a statement, Cate gushed that she was delighted to be coming to the festival in such a prestigious role.

‘I have been to Cannes in many guises over the years; as an actress, producer, in the marketplace, the Gala-sphere and in Competition,’ Cate said. ‘But never solely for the sheer pleasure of watching the cornucopia of films this great festival harbours.’

The actress added: ‘I am humbled by the privilege and responsibility of presiding over this year’s jury.’

Cate’s honour comes as she joined other high profile actresses in condemning sexual harassment.

The actress backed a public letter from new initiative Time’s Up, which describes itself as a ‘unified call for change from women in entertainment for women everywhere’.

Other Australians joining the call to end sexual misconduct include Margot Robbie and Lara Bingle.
