Cate Blanchett sells stunning three-bedroom, two-bathroom home in Melbourne for a tidy profit ahead of scheduled auction

Cate Blanchett has scored a major real estate win after selling off her gorgeous Melbourne pad weeks ahead of a scheduled auction.

The Oscar winner and her husband Andrew Upton have sold the stylish three-bedroom, two-bathroom home for more than $3million.

Located in sought after Prahran, 8kms from the CBD, the gorgeous two-storey dwelling was listed with a price guide of $2.25million-$2.45million earlier this month.

According to Domain, an eager buyer snapped up the home ahead of the scheduled auction on March 9, leaving Blanchett and Upton with more than half a million dollars profit.

However, the publication could not confirm the buyer or the final price, adding that all listings for the home have been removed.

Blanchett and Upton did a major redesign on the property after they purchased it in 2006 for $745,000, reports The Age. 

Built only metres from one of Melbourne’s landmarks, Victoria Gardens, the chic sprawl is a stylish spread featuring an open plan design.

The downstairs boasts a sunken living area with floor-to-ceiling glass walls.

Other highlights include a stone and stainless steel kitchen and a cosy backyard garden.

Meanwhile, the second storey offers a ‘children’s retreat’, while the large main bedroom has an ensuite and access to the front veranda.

Cate and husband Andrew are known to own property in Sydney and the U.K.

The couple’s portfolio includes a glorious Victorian mansion in East Sussex, England, which they bought for £4.9 million (AU$9.4million) in 2015.

Before Cate and her family moved in the home was owned by Sherlock Holmes creator Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Doctor Who star Tom Baker.

The couple also own an investment property in Sydney’s CBD.

They made headlines in 2017 after selling their enormous home in prestigious Hunters Hill for a whopping $18million.

Cate and Andrew bought the sprawling pad in 2004 for $10million.
