Cate Blanchett’s husband Andrew Upton accidentally donates her luxury handbag to charity

She’s a Hollywood actress, who’s known for her blockbuster films and philanthropic endeavours.

And Cate Blanchett donated more than she intended on Sunday, when her husband Andrew Upton accidentally gave away her $2,200 Bally handbag to charity.

The 49-year-old, who is a United Nations global Goodwill Ambassador, was visiting a local Red Cross with Andrew, 52, and their adopted daughter Edith, three, in Sydney when the innocent mistake occurred.

The generous couple took turns carrying large bags filled with clothing into the shop and at one point, Oscar award winner Cate took off her luxury handbag and placed it in the car.

Screenwriter Andrew obliviously picked up the expensive tote along with donated goods and handed everything over to a Red Cross worker.

The staff member almost immediately realised the mistake and handed the bag back to the father-of-four, who managed to laugh it all off.

Following their generous donations, the casually-dressed pair later shopped at high-end furniture store Great Dane.

Blue Jasmine star Cate cut a relaxed figure in a white sweater paired with khaki pants, sneakers and dark shades.

Her husband wore blue pants, a green T-shirt, black jacket and sneakers.

The couple, who have been married for 20 years, also share three sons Ignatius, eight, Roman, 12 and Dashiel, 15. 

She previously joked about how she got him to propose after just 21 days. 

‘I cooked him the worst meal. I somehow decided that to stuff a trout with walnuts and goat’s cheese would be a good idea,’ she said on the Ellen show.

‘He ate it and then he asked me to marry him, so clearly he was, I don’t know, hallucinating. He realised I couldn’t cook.

She jokingly added: ‘You give them food poisoning, they’re delirious, and then you’ve got them.’
