Catriona Rowntree reveals the essential items travellers should pack in their carry-on for a flight

Getaway host Catriona Rowntree has revealed the onboard essentials she makes sure to always pack in her carry-on luggage.

The 51-year-old is a well-seasoned traveller having hosted Getaway for more than 25 years and said she’s ‘learned the hard way’ what items are best to pack to make flying more comfortable.

Cartriona recommended travellers bring a wool jumper, antibacterial wipes, lip balm, a nail file, paracetamol, face wipes, eye drops, moisturiser and a cross body bag to stay organised and hydrated while flying.

The TV presenter suggested making sure travellers have a ‘layer of wool’ on hand as ‘you WILL freeze/boil all within five minutes of each other’.

To sanitise surfaces and clean up any spills, Catriona always brings Wet Ones wipes and to ‘do everything in her power to avoid the plane loo sink’, she also packs face wipes.

  4. Small crossbody bag
  5. Lanolips lip balm
  6. Panadol
  7. Eye drops
  8. Emery board
  9. Clarins Beauty Flash

Fourth on her list of onboard essentials was a small crossbody bag to keep things like her passports, phone, pen and glasses safe.

‘You know you’ll lose everything in the exact moment you need them,’ she said in a post.

As plane cabin air can dehydrate passengers ‘like no body’s business’, Catriona packs Lanolips lip balm as well as a sachet of Panadol and eye drops.

She also brings an emery board joking: ‘eight hours with a scratchy nail is like Chinese Water Torture’.

Finally, Catriona has a tube of Clairns Beauty Flash balm in her bag saying she layers it on just before take off and landing.

Clarins Beauty Flash Balm is used on the face to erase signs of fatigue for dry and dehydrated skin.

Previously, Catriona revealed her age-defying beauty secrets, as fans have marvelled over her impossibly youthful appearance.

She credits her youthful look with a can-do attitude, daily sunscreen and a healthy diet filled with plenty of wholefoods, fruit and veg and a teaspoon of olive oil.

The host also keeps her skincare routine simple – just using a cleanser, serum and moisturiser but says that guzzling water, taking collagen and consuming olive oil is the most important.

Catriona also uses several multi-tasking products including a compact with SPF in it to make sure that while she may allow her body to tan a little bit, her face never even has a freckle.

The star is often complimented on her youthful appearance – and last year revealed she was learning to fly for her big birthday.

She also said that she uses ‘liquid gold’ Jojoba oil to keep her skin fresh while she’s in the cockpit.

Catriona has made a habit of stepping outside of her comfort zone over the years, and credits this trait among other things as one of the reasons why she stays looking young.

Catriona Rowntree’s age-defying beauty secrets revealed

  • A daily teaspoon of olive oil.
  • Using a compact that has SPF in it to avoid getting freckles or tanned on her face.
  • A can-do attitude that has most recently meant she is currently learning to fly.
  • Her genetic ‘fat cheeks’ she inherited from her nan
  • Lip balm applied regularly
  • Taking collagen daily
  • Lots of water
  • Keeping her hair long over the years.
  • Using Jojoba Oil on her face, neck and body to create an illuminous glow.
  • No more than two cups of coffee per day.
  • A simple skincare routine that involves using Clarins Double Serum in with her foundation.
  • Moisturising the neck, the décolletage, and tops of hands. Daily SPF

‘My fat cheeks [are a big contributor to looking young],’ Catriona previously told the Sydney Morning Herald.

‘Fat cheeks that I inherited from my nan. These fat cheeks have held me in good stead.’

She also loves Clarins Double Serum, a tip she picked up from flight attendants.

‘I love to do really quick facials like the SOS ones (10 minutes while having my brekky) and of course Clarins Beauty Flash is essential,’ she previously told House of Wellness.

‘That said, daily olive oil is my saviour too. On salads, directly rubbed into cuticles, a baby’s dry scalp, you cannot beat nature as a cure all.’

Catriona likes to eat a healthy, natural diet filled with plenty of wholefoods and dark green leafy vegetables from her family’s farm.

She also has a ‘spoonful of olive oil’ every single day, as she once learned that this can help to improve the glow of your skin.

‘I take collagen daily, guzzle the water, consume olive oil whenever possible and moisturise the neck, the décolletage, and tops of hands,’ Catriona told Marie Claire.

‘My skin has always been sensitive, so I’m thrilled I can use serums which I also now add to my foundation for extra glow. The Clarins Double Serum works wonders for me and I also love their Face Treatment Oils. I love the scent.’

She also religiously applies Lanolips Lip Balm in order to keep her lips supple and moisturised.

Previously, Catriona posted on Instagram about her love for a $19.95 Australian Jojoba Oil by The Jojoba Co, saying she uses the natural product on her face, neck and sometimes her body to create a dewy natural look.

‘A little shout out for this wonderful Aussie-owned company,’ she said.

‘They farm this remarkable product in the Riverina area of New South Wales.

‘It’s not an oil, it’s actually a liquid wax ester, brilliant for those of us with sensitive skin.’

Catriona added that she uses the product whenever she wants to create a ‘glow’ on her face and pairs it with the Body Oil by the same brand to get smooth, silky legs when filming.

It comes as the host revealed she’s travelled to almost 100 countries, revealing her favourite destination of all-time is Egypt.

‘Egypt is out there on its own as far as destinations go, incomparable. I’ve never been somewhere, where Aussies approach me with tears in their eyes,’ she told Escape.

‘Not only are they achieving life long dreams, but they dearly wanted me to spread the word about how magnificent and safe it is.’

‘We were the first non-news TV crew to film there in years. Locals couldn’t believe we wanted to share positive, happy stories. This is one country in desperate need of a good PR Agent,’ she continued.
