A man has been charged with the murder of a 51-year-old woman whose body was recovered from a house on Monday morning.
Angela Rider from Cawood, north Yorkshire was found dead at her home according to police.
North Yorkshire Police arrested a 49-year-old man 120 miles from the scene in the Lake District.
Adrian Michael Rodi, 49, appeared at York Magistrates’ Court and spoke only to confirm his name, age, address and nationality in the short ten-minute hearing.
Rodi is alleged to have killed Angela on March 4.
Her body was found in the early hours on Monday morning.
Rodi, who sported a blue-grey sweater over a white shirt and grey trousers, was flanked in the dock by two dock officers.
Rodi, of Cawood, North Yorkshire will appear at Leeds Crown Court tomorrow.
Ms Rider’s family today released a statement expressing their devastation at their loss.
Her daughter Sara Rider, mother Wendy Brown and sister Tracy Mills said: ‘Angela was the most beautiful fantastic mum, a wonderful daughter and the best sister anyone could have wished for.
‘Please can we ask, as a family, to be given the time we need to come to terms with this most devastating loss.’
DI Steve Menzies, who is leading the investigation on behalf of the Cleveland and North Yorkshire Investigation Team said: ‘This was an isolated incident and is appealing to people not to speculate on social media.’
He added: ‘Anyone who thinks they might have information about the case is asked to contact police. Dial 101, press 2 and ask to speak to the Cleveland and North Yorkshire Major Investigation Team.
‘Please quote reference number 12180037718 when passing on any information to the police.’
The alleged attacker fled the red-brick detached cottage and was arrested more than 120 miles away in the Lake District.
The has been cordoned off by police, who are also searching drains and conducting house-to-house enquiries.
Police broke down the door of another property on the street in the search for the woman’s killer.
Marjorie Reddall, who lives nearby, said: ‘It’s a bit distressing, actually. I didn’t get to know her personally.
‘I’ve been round to some of the older residents in the complex to make sure they’re alright. Police are talking to people now.’
