Darren McMullen was brought to tears on Tuesday’s episode of Celebrity Apprentice Australia after receiving some devastating family news.

In a cruel twist of fate, television host Darren, 40, received a phone call informing him that his dog Mac had been diagnosed with cancer.

Darren McMullen, 40, was brought to tears on Tuesday’s episode of Celebrity Apprentice Australia after learning his beloved pet dog Mac was diagnosed with cancer

‘This is a tough one for me. I had some bad news about my doggy,’ Darren told guest star Janine Allis.

‘Just out of nowhere something blew up in his mouth and it was cancer. They wanted to put him down but I said, “Absolutely not. I need a second opinion,”‘ he said, tears welling in his eyes.

Darren told Janine he’d owned Mac for 12 years and considered him ‘part of the family’.

Despite the tragic news, Darren bravely continued with the challenge.

‘It’s pretty awful. [This challenge] is a tough task for me. At the same time, I do love animals and I just kind of have to channel that and do the best I can to help my team win,’ he said.

Darren’s perseverance paid off, as he avoided elimination during the episode’s board meeting, with Lord Alan Sugar praising his ‘outstanding’ salesmanship.

‘This is Mac, he’s doing okay. He had radiation treatment and responded well to it. We’re all crossing our fingers he gets out the other side cancer free.’
