While you might think the best beauty inspiration from New York Fashion Week comes from backstage or straight off the runway, there is a whole separate realm of hair and make-up moments to dissect: the front row.
From their perfectly-positioned perches during the Spring/Summer 2018 shows in New York City, celebrities including Solange Knowles, Emily Blunt and Selena Gomez served up enviable beauty looks we can’t wait to re-create.
Read on below for the celebrity hair, make-up and nail highlights from the front row and get tips you can use to copy them at home.
SELENA GOMEZ
Falling for autumn: Selena Gomez, 25, wore a ‘sexy bitter chocolate’ nail color and twinkling gold eyeshadow to sit front row at the Coach Spring 2018 presentation
Days before announcing she received a kidney transplant from her best friend to help her battle Lupus, Selena sat front-row at the Coach Spring 2018 presentation.
The 25-year-old singer fully embraced the soon-to-be-fall season by wearing a buttery leather moto jacket, patchwork flared jeans and chunky-heeled shoes (along with her Selena Grace Bag from her collection with Coach, naturally), but it was her make-up and manicure that really got us in the autumnal spirit.
Manicurist Tom Bachick painted Selena’s nails a ‘sexy bitter chocolate’ color that served as a perfect antidote to summer’s bright and pastel shades. For similar look, use L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche Nail Polish in Haute Couture Red.
Selena’s sexy, glittering, smoky eye, courtesy of her longtime make-up artist Hung Vanngo, also grabbed our attention. Make your lids shimmer with Marc Jacobs Beauty Twinkle Pop Eyeshadow Stick in Volver, and smudge a black gel liner outward across your top lash line for the sultry effect.
SOLANGE KNOWLES
Lighten up: Solange Knowles, 31, traded her dark hair for waist-length platinum braids for the Maryam Nassir Zadeh show
We’ve come to expect certain beauty signatures from Solange – a colorful eye, an artfully arranged mane of dark hair, even the occasional red lip.
For her surprise performance of her new song Musical Meditation at the Maryam Nassir Zadeh show, though, the 31-year-old singer eschewed all of those in favor of a full head of blonde braids of varying widths and over-sized cat-eye sunglasses.
The waist-length braids and twists, which were accented with decorative beads and wraps may have been a temporary look, but if Beyonce’s sister’s Instagram is to be believed, the color could stick around.
Solange has posted several images since Tuesday’s show of her platinum color, one of which featured her hair styled in a short afro.
TINASHE
Red hot! Beauty risk-taker Tinashe, 24, painted her lids a bold crimson color in advance of the Opening Ceremony presentation
To say that Tinashe is a beauty dare-devil is an understatement.
While she regularly debuts new hairstyles and colors, the singer told Marie Claire earlier this summer that there is one make-up element she likes to change up the most.
‘My favorite way to experiment with make-up is doing something fun on my eyes,’ she said. ‘I’m much more of an eye girl than a lip one.’
True to form, she showed up for the Opening Ceremony spring 2018 presentation with giant swaths of red pigment across her lids. She kept the rest of her make-up fresh and neutral and styled her hair straight before tucking it behind her ears.
Ready for red eyes? Use a wet brush to apply MAC Pigment in Basic Red from lash line to just below the brow bone and create sharp angles at the inner and outer corners.
EMILY BLUNT
Party in the back: Emily Blunt, 34, turned to hairstylist Sarah Potempa to give her a ‘braided boho bun’ for the Tory Burch spring/summer 2018 show
Emily’s colorful, midi-length sheath dress was the perfect outfit to wear to Tory Burch’s spring show set amongst the backdrop of the garden of the Cooper Hewitt Museum.
The movie star and mom-of-two turned to braider-extraordinare Sarah Potempa for an updo that complimented dress.
The stylist and founder of The Beachwaver curling iron created a ‘braided boho bun’ for the actress, who is married to John Krasinski.
To get the ethereal look, Sarah first used The Beachwaver Co. Coast Pro Ceramic Styling Iron to create texture around the hairline. Next, she made a fishtail braid down the middle of Emily’s head before making three more plaits on the side.
Then, she rolled up the ends of the fishtail in The Beachwaver Co. Wrap Up to create a bun and wrapped the side braids around the back and pinned in place.
EMMA ROBERTS
Transitional dressing at its best: At Coach, Emma Roberts, 26, straddled the summer-to-fall season change like a pro with her mustard dress and bright red lipstick
Like Selena, Emma also attended the Coach presentation on Tuesday. Instead of going full-on fall like the singer, however, Emma took a more transitional approach to the changing seasons with both her clothing and make-up.
Her sheer yellow Coach dress would have been 100-percent summer-y without the addition of black stars and accent lines.
The same can be said about her wavy blonde bob. The dark roots and black bobby pins made it just the right September note.
The highlight of her beauty look, though, was undoubtedly her rich crimson lips. Make-up artist Vincent Oquendo used Tatcha Kyoto Red Lipstick on the actress.
