Celebrity brow architect lifts the lid on $1,600 A-list-approved treatment

For anyone who has either plucked their eyebrows into oblivion or struggles with natural brow growth, there is light at the end of the tunnel in the form of a semi-permanent tattoo treatment that has been used by a slew of celebrities looking to boost their brows. 

Known as microblading, the tattoo treatment has been around for a while now but for many it has seemed an intimidating option.

So to start with, who is the ideal client for the Multeye and for microblading in general? ‘I think everyone can benefit from the Multeye,’ Josh says. ‘I’m subtly enhancing what you naturally have. The whole point of the services that I do are so that my client can wake up looking their best with minimal effort. 

‘That’s why my Instagram handle is so fitting @hashtagiwokeuplikethis – you literally wake up like this every morning. Many of my clients end up getting all of the semi permanent makeup services I offer. Microblading, lash line enhancements and lip blushing.’

‘I’ve developed a method that results in a three dimensional, texturized finish. The technique that I do, and I’m the only one that does this, gives the most natural finish so that the brow strokes have texture and closely mimic the appearance of real brow hairs.

‘When doing brow tints it’s never one size fits all. I always mix a few colors together to get you as close to your hair color as I can or create the most suitable brow color for you. When waxing brows I have a secret step that I do to ensure little to no irritation. As a ginger I always assume everyone’s skin is as sensitive as mine.’

There are a fair few stories about botched procedures out there so Josh recommends clients check out prospective microblading artists before and after pictures first, ‘It’s the best way to look at the artists work. Check their Instagram and also search Google and yelp reviews,’ he advises.

Adding: ‘It also includes a 30 day retouch, which is absolutely necessary in order to achieve the desired effect and longevity.’   

‘A semi permanent make up treatment should last for just about a year,’ he explains. ‘The reason you want this is because if someone claims theirs will last longer than they are using permanent ink. Permanent ink ages terribly on the face. This is because of the high rate of cellular turn over that naturally occurs on the face. 

‘When doing semi permanent make-up services I use a more natural, mineral based pigment. Over the course of the year you body expels the pigment or metabolizes it.’

And it isn’t just their previous work you need to check out before booking an appointment Josh advises. ‘After seeing the artists before and after’s you’ll also want to ask what kind of ink they are using. If they claim their service will last more than a year chances are they’re using permanent ink. This is a huge red flag. 

‘As I mentioned above permanent ink ages terribly on the face. 99 percent of the time you’ll end up with a blue, grey, red or pink color after about 2 years. I’ve fixed many of these, but it’s an annual appointment as I use a semi permanent pigment that will fade evenly throughout the course of a year.’ 

It’s not just your brows that can benefit, another popular service is the lash line enhancement. ‘I’m not a fan of thick semi permanent eyeliner or a cat eye. I do a very fine line in between the lash follicles resulting in a natural definition of your eyes and adding a density to the base of your lashes that enhances your eye color. It even adds a smoldering effect to dark brown eyes.
