Celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge reveals the surprising reason his daughters want him to quit My Kitchen Rules

Colin Fassnidge has revealed the surprising reason his teenage daughters want him to walk away from his co-hosting gig on My Kitchen Rules.

The celebrity chef, 51, admitted his two daughters Lily, 14, and Maeve, 13 want him to step away from the camera was because he is too ‘cringe’ and embarrasses them.

‘They’re at the age where in school where, apparently, I’m called “cringe”,’ he admitted in an interview with TV Week.

‘They don’t want to see their dad on TV – they want me to quit.’

However, the no-nonsense foodie said their demand has fallen on deaf ears, reminding the pair that his TV gig has afforded them a comfortable lifestyle.

‘I like to remind them to look above their heads,’ Colin said. ‘They ask: “What? The roof?” And I say: “Yes, this show is what gives you that”.’

While My Kitchen Rules might be the family’s bread and butter,  Colin recently revealed there is a darker side of reality television fame.

Speaking on the Mental As Anyone podcast in July, Colin revealed the toll trolls have taken on him, with disgusting comments about his family causing him to ‘flip out’.

The Irish author said he was willing to withstand online hatred, but added that targeting his wife and daughters was crossing the line.

‘I had someone say he’d molest my kids. Someone said they’d rape my wife. Someone said they’d burn down my house. That’s just because they don’t like your TV show,’ Colin said.

‘And I’m like, “really?” People think they can say whatever they want. I don’t mind when they attack me but when they go to the next level, that is when I flip out.’

Colin was forced to contact New South Wales Police in 2015 after receiving a disturbing tweet relating to his daughters.

‘I had a guy say he would babysit my kids in a roundabout way and I went to the police and asked what they were going to do about it,’ Colin told news.com.au at the time of the shocking incident.

‘The police officer said “he didn’t say he was going to molest them”… and there was nothing he could do.’

Unimpressed by the response, Colin said it was only after he asked for the name of the officer attending to his case that he got a more substantial action.

He said while negative views expressed about his role on MKR were par for the course, he added that did not extend to his family or MKR contestants.

‘You can slag me off for being the worst cook in the world, my restaurants are s*** and you hate my hair, but leave my kids and the contestants out of it,’ he said.
