A Sydney teenager who allegedly stabbed her ginger cat to death before throwing it off a second-floor balcony is expected to apply for bail.

The body of the cat, allegedly stabbed 20 times, was found near her Dee Why property at 8.30am on Wednesday, police say.

A second cat was subsequently taken by officers from the property and placed in the care of the RSPCA.

Shead was arrested on Wednesday afternoon, assessed at Northern Beaches Hospital and then charged, fronting court on the next day.

The court heard her bail application would require her to show why detention was not justified, and that Shead had instructed her lawyer to make the application on Friday.

The court also heard that Magistrate Mark Richardson had sentenced the 19-year-old last week to a ‘very strict’ good-behaviour bond for 30 offences.

Court documents show her crimes include assault occasioning actual bodily harm, being armed with the intent of committing an indictable offence, contravening an AVO and destroying or damaging property.

She was sentenced to a 12-month intensive correction order that required she not use drugs or alcohol and consult with a medical centre.
