Kasper Schmeichel is flying out to America to join his new team-mates on tour after Celtic confirmed they have signed the veteran goalkeeper on a one-year deal.
The 37-year-old Denmark captain, who has been drafted in as replacement for Joe Hart, will be reunited with manager Brendan Rodgers after the pair worked together previously at Leicester City.
Schmeichel, who led his country to the last 16 at Euro 2024, had been a free agent since leaving Belgian side Anderlecht at the end of last season.
Capped 105 times by the Danes, he told the Scottish champions’ website: ‘Celtic is one of the world’s proper football clubs, a massive name and a place of real passion and success. Celtic is what football is all about.
‘I’m really looking forward to meeting up with the boys in America and start our work and then, of course, meet our fans who bring so much to Celtic.’
Having already worked under Rodgers at King Power Stadium, where they helped the Foxes lift the 2021 FA Cup and Community Shield, Schmeichel added: ‘He is a top manager and someone I can’t wait to work with again. I will be doing all I can to keep Celtic on top.’

Back in 2016, Schmeichel was a key player as Leicester stunned football by winning the EPL

Schmeichel, son of Manchester United legend Peter, began his career at Manchester City but spent a season on loan at Falkirk as a young goalkeeper prior to spells at Notts County and Leeds.
It was during his 11 years at Leicester where he made his name, helping Claudio Ranieri’s side achieve one of the great footballing fairy tales when they were crowned Premier League champions in 2016.
Following his departure from Leicester, he played for a season at Nice before moving to Anderlecht in 2023.
