Chanelle Hayes showed off her incredible weight loss as she enjoyed a beach break in Spain.

The 35-year-old star lost nine stone after undergoing a gastric sleeve operation in August 2020, which saw her drop from a size 18 to a size 10.

And the mother-of-two put her slimmed down figure on display in a tiny cream bikini that highlighted her shrinking frame.

She seemed in great spirits as she posed for selfies on sun loungers and went for a walk along the shoreline.

Chanelle managed to muster up a smile despite admitting she is often battling  ‘horrific’ pain from osteoarthritis –  the most common type of arthritis in the UK.

She was recently diagnosed with the condition, which causes joints to become painful and stiff, and admitted earlier this month that she believes her fluctuating weight was the cause of her condition.

She said on Steph’s Packed Lunch: ‘I’ve been up and down with my weight over the years and while I was happier being bigger, I don’t think I actually fully understood the implications – I didn’t think at 35 I would have arthritis.

‘I didn’t put being overweight with arthritis, you normally think I might get diabetes, I might get a heart issue, not the correlation between being overweight and obese and then having stress and impact on your joints.

‘I wish I’d have kind of taken note of it sooner and being a bit more aware of it, which is why I wanted to come on today.

‘It’s not body shaming, be whatever size you want to be, but if you’ve got the knowledge and you understand the correlation between the two, you then make your own decision and it’s trying to raise awareness.

‘I’m on lots of different medications which I’m not really mad about. I’m doing a lot of holistic things. I’m seeing an acupuncturist. I’m doing less medical and more holistic type treatments, and they’re talking about steroid injections.’

She candidly admitted: ‘I’m fed up with everything. You’ve caught me on a good day today!’

In an interview with OK! Magazine, Chanelle said: ‘I’m 8st now and a dress size 6-8. Last summer, I was around 9st 5lb and before having the sleeve fitted, I was a size 22 and 17st 4lb.’

‘I’ve actually been really stressed with university deadlines and the children’s schedules with schools and their dads and I think that’s caused the weight loss.

‘It means I’ve got more loose skin, so while I still feel a million times better than I did when I was unhealthy, I’m now thinking, “Maybe I want to do something about this,” so I’m considering a tummy tuck.

The reality TV started added: ‘I feel like it’s ageing me a bit,’ before admitting she is also considering a boob lift as she believes her breasts are ‘disfigured’ after her surgery.

Chanelle underwent her gastric operation in 2020, and explained at the time that the operation was a ‘last resort’ after battling with her weight for years.

Following the operation, she explained the reasons for going under the knife, writing on social media: ‘It was an accumulation of things: medical issues related to obesity, mental health deterioration, I hardly left the house. I needed a second chance at my health.’

Chanelle was asked if she felt she had any options, to which she wrote: ‘Yes definitely. I would have continued eating myself into an early grave had I not tried surgery. It isn’t for everyone and I researched it extensively and it changed my life.’

Elsewhere, in her chat about her osteoarthritis, Chanelle revealed it took a long time to get diagnosed.

She said: ‘It took ages and ages because you can’t it’s not something you can diagnose through blood tests.

‘I’ve actually been having pain in my left hip and in my left knee for a long, long time, so it’s probably started when I was pregnant with my second son in 2017.

‘It’s not really improved since then. I then got diagnosed with chronic pain, fatigue and with ME as well, which was managed with certain medications and other treatments like cognitive behavioural therapy.

‘But the pain was still so severe, it was waking me up in the night, I can’t sit like this for too long, when I drive it flares up, it’s just horrific.’

Chanelle continued: ‘So I got referred to another physio who then said it might be bursitis let’s just get you for a pelvic X ray to make sure and it came back and I’ve got it in both hips, but I don’t really feel it in my right hip, just my left one, but as Shakira said, “my hips don’t lie”.’

WHAT IS OSTEOARTHRITIS?

Osteoarthritis – sometimes called ‘wear and tear’ – is a condition that occurs when the surfaces within joints become damaged.

Cartilage covering the ends of bones gradually thin over time, and the bone thickens, according to Versus Arthritis.

Around a third of people aged 45 years and over in the UK suffer from the condition. This equates to roughly 8.75 million people. At least 20 million are known to suffer in the US.

It is different to rheumatoid arthritis, a long-term illness in which the immune system causes the body to attack itself, causing painful, swollen and stiff joints.

Replacement joints are often necessary for osteoarthritis patients, because the joint has been worn down and causes agonising pain.

Asked by host Steph McGovern about how it had impacted her mental health Chanelle replied: ‘It really has and that’s why we were discussing earlier how the CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is really helping, when you treat a person now, you’re a whole person and even though it’s my hip that’s in pain, it affects my state of mind.

‘Rather than take so many medications it is really important to try and manage how you deal with the pain mentally as well. Once you’ve got it, you’ve got it, it’s not going anywhere, it’s not really got any better.’

Staying positive, she added: ‘I’m quite glad now that I know what it is. I feel like knowledge is power.

‘So now I can figure out l different remedies, I can eat like more anti-inflammatory type foods to lessen the chance of inflammation.’
