Channel 10 stars including Sarah Harris ‘quietly miffed’ Robert Irwin is nominated for a Gold Logie over TV stars with ‘more status and experience’

Robert Irwin’s Gold Logie nomination at this year’s 64th annual TV Week Logie Awards has continued to ruffle feathers.

The wildlife warrior, 20, has become one of the youngest ever to be considered for the prestigious accolade, which recognises the best in the Australian TV industry.

His nomination comes just months after he made his TV co-hosting debut on Network 10’s I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! alongside Julia Morris.

Robert is up against TV veterans Morris, Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Asher Keddie, Andy Lee and Tony Armstrong, and according to New Idea the move has raised eyebrows.

‘Nobody is claiming that Robert is a stranger to television, but the Gold Logie is usually reserved for TV talents with more status and experience,’ a TV insider told New Idea.

‘It took Sonia Kruger over 30 years to win Gold (in 2023), so there is a feeling that other stars like TV legend Hamish Blake or Lynne McGranger, were perhaps more deserving,’ the source added.

The insider alleged some Network 10 stars may be ‘quietly miffed’ that he has been recognised so early.

‘Sarah Harris has been so loyal to Ten. She’s taken over Carrie Bickmore’s role on The Project and soldiered on when negative publicity has threatened to derail the show. Yet she was overlooked. No doubt she’ll be feeling a bit ignored,’ they said.

The source even claimed the conservationist’s co-star Morris will have ‘thoughts’ following her third nomination for Gold.

Last Monday, Home and Away’s Lynne McGranger, 71, took a swipe at Robert after his nomination in the Most Popular Personality category as she commented on his lack of TV experience.

Taking to Instagram, Lynne shared her surprise that the budding star was also in the running.

‘I’m sorry but ol’ mate Irwin has been on telly for a bloody minute!! No disrespect intended,’ she wrote in a cheeky swipe.

Her comment came in support of her friend Larry, 59, who took to Instagram to share an amusing exchange he had with his friend after his nomination.

Despite only just launching his mainstream TV career, Robert is also vying for the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.

In the category, he is again up against his co-host Julia, Larry, Sonia and Tony, as well as popular star Hamish Blake.
