Channel Nine Brisbane viewers spot incredible phenomenon in background of Garry Youngberry’s weather forecast

Channel Nine viewers were stunned to spot a meteor dropping from the sky as the nightly news bulletin wrapped up.

Queensland weatherman Garry Youngberry was delivering the forecast for Wednesday night’s State of Origin decider in Brisbane during a live cross when a meteor lit up the sky behind him.

Dressed warmly in an all-maroon outfit, Youngberry warned Origin fans heading to Brisbane’s Suncorp stadium to rug-up to protect themselves against the unusually bracing 8C wind chill factor.

Seconds into his forecast, the shooting star was seen falling from the sky.

Youngberry appeared to be unaware of the meteor as he described the large crowds of footy fans heading to the match along Caxton St below him.

Nine later shared a video of the spectacular moment online after it was spotted in the live cross by the newsroom.

It was also spotted by eagled-eyed viewers during the broadcast.

‘My ten-year-old tried to tell me he saw that behind him (Youngberry) and I was like ‘pfft! No you didn’t!’ Hahahaha,’ one wrote.

Another added: ‘I saw this at Greenbank. So awesome.’

A third wrote: ‘Well how about that, a meteor while watching a meteorologist.’

A fourth commented: ‘I seen that earlier. I thought they knew about it or seen it. Thinking it must’ve been a light or fireworks.’

Others saw the funny side.

‘Should have gone to Specsavers I think,’ one quipped.

Another added: ‘Did it pay the toll going over the go between bridge?’

Some commenters joked that the meteor’s blue-green flash was a sign that a New South Wales’ victory was on the cards, with the Blues winning 14-4 against Queensland to claim the series.

The Blues’ first series win in three years came in dramatic fashion with a brawl on the sideline, a sin-binning like no other seen in Origin and the 19th man banished from the field – all against the backdrop of both teams turning in one of the most relentlessly physical games in recent memory.

‘The whole of Queensland will be blue. Go the Blues,’ one commenter wrote.

Another quipped: ‘That’s the hopes and dreams of QLD fans come crashing down!’
