Ben Fordham and Sylvia Jeffreys lead tributes as beloved member of the Channel Nine family dies of cancer: ‘She was the heart of the Today show’

Tributes are pouring in after the death of long-serving Channel Nine receptionist Lydia Rouesnel.

Lydia, who worked at the network for two decades and was described by one colleague as ‘the heart of the Today show’, died on Friday after a battle with cancer.

Nine and 2GB presenter Ben Fordham wrote on Instagram on Monday: ‘You know those people who brighten up the room, simply by being there? That’s what Lydia Rouesnel did at Channel Nine for 20 years.’

‘Lydia passed away on Friday after a battle with cancer. We loved her and she loved every day she had at Channel Nine.’

Fordham continued: ‘She had a soft spot for the boys and a wicked sense of humour. She supported everyone and was always so pumped and positive.

‘If you know someone like Lydia in your workplace, let them know what a difference they make. Love ya, Lydia.’

Today Extra anchor Sylvia Jeffreys wrote on Instagram: ‘Lovely words from Ben Fordham about our beautiful friend Lydia. She radiated love and positivity. She was a joy to be around and loved her family fiercely. We’ll miss her so much. Fly high, Lyds.’

Entertainment reporter Richard Wilkins also commented: ‘Well said, Benny… what a sad loss. RIP Lydia.’

‘Still can’t believe it. Always there with a smile and up for a chat. Always genuinely interested in other’s lives. A rare gem. Love you, Lydia. Thinking of your loved ones,’ fellow Nine host Belinda Russell said.
