Chaos as The Kyle and Jackie ‘O’ Show is plunged into darkness and microphones cut out during on-air blackout

The Kyle and Jackie O Show was hit with a blackout during Wednesday morning’s show.

Hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson were caught by surprise when the KIIS FM Sydney studio was plunged into darkness right in the middle of a segment.

The hosts tried to carry on with the show as producers searched for a solution to rectify the situation.

‘Oh, we just went to black,’ Kyle, 52, announced to listeners as the studio lights suddenly went out.

A video of the incident showed Kyle trying to get help from producers and technicians.

‘Sorry, all the light have gone out here,’ he said, just before his microphone cut out temporarily.

From the footage, it appeared the hosts’ broadcast booth was impacted for just a few seconds.

It comes after The Kyle and Jackie O Show announced a historic new radio deal back in November which will see them expand from Sydney to Melbourne.

While the pair returned to the airwaves in Sydney last week, their first official broadcast in Melbourne will be in the second quarter of this year or possibly earlier.

A source at the station told Daily Mail Australia: ‘It’s not accurate that the expansion into Melbourne’s been delayed because the [Melbourne] show was never set to begin airing this Monday.’

‘At this stage, the launch date’s still to be determined but will likely fall [in the second quarter] of this year,’ they added.

The Sydney-based radio duo signed a record-breaking $200million, 10-year deal live on-air – keeping them on the airwaves until 2034.

A spokesperson for ARN confirmed to Daily Mail Australia the deal for the Sydney duo meant their work pals Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips were out of a job and their Melbourne breakfast show finished up in December.

Lauren broke down in tears while announcing the news to her listeners, sobbing that she didn’t want to ‘say goodbye to Melbourne’.
