Charlton 1-0 Leyton Orient: Charlton secured promotion back to the second tier with victory over Leyton Orient at Wembley.

Victory in the League One play-off final sees the addicks back in the second tier for the first time since the 2019-20 season.

Macaulay Gillesphey’s free-kick on 31 minutes sent the Charlton contingent at Wembley into pandemonium.

Richie Wellens’ side pushed hard to get back into the game for the remaining hour but repeatedly suffered from a lack of quality in the final third.

Charlie Kelman rattled the woodwork for the O’s on the hour mark but an equaliser continued to elude them.

A break in play during the closing stages forced 11 minutes of stoppage time but Nathan Jones’ men ultimately held on to claim a momentous victory.
