A thrifty mum has shared her handy Subway hack that makes a delicious meal for two for just $4.50 as the cost of living continues to rise.
The woman, from regional New South Wales, bought a $3.50 Meatball Mozza Pot from Subway and combined it with some cooked pasta from a $1 packet she bought at the supermarket.
She said the tasty meal could be enough to feed two adults or one parent and two small children.
The mum said the meal is perfect for those on a tight budget who don’t have the time or energy to cook a cheap lunch or dinner from scratch.
Hundreds were impressed by the budget takeaway trick and shared their own money-saving meals they’ve been making to save a buck.

Not sure if this has been shared but times are tough so if struggling get $3.50 Mozza pot from Subway and a $1 packet of pasta,’ the mum said in a post to Markdown Addicts Australia.
‘Cook it and mix it together for a simple $4.50 meal. Would comfortably feed two people or a single person with two to three little people.’
Subway’s Mozza pots include six meatballs in marinara sauce topped with melted mozzarella.
Many group members said they loved the meatball pots and have been using them to make their own cheap dishes.
‘I add spinach to mine as I love warm salads so these chucked on a salad. I also ask for garlic aioli to put on top and they usually do it. It is delicious,’ one woman said.
‘I get these as lunch sometimes, they are quite filling,’ another replied and a mum wrote: ‘I grab these for my three-year-old sometimes for dinner he loves them’.

‘I may or may not have put my son’s leftovers in between two pieces of bread and sandwich pressed it into a toastie,’ a fourth suggested.
Others were thankful for the delicious dinner tip with some saying the meal is perfect for those who have had gastric sleeve surgery.
‘I love this idea, definitely need to try it out one night,’ someone responded.
‘I’ve never seen this. I’m thinking about so many recipes you can make. This is a great,’ a second agreed.
‘I’ve had a gastric sleeve so this is just perfect for me. Thanks. Didn’t even know this was a thing,’ added a third.
More mums shared their own cheap meal ideas with one woman explaining how she makes pasta for her family of four for under $7.
‘Get a 500gm packet of pork mince from Aldi at $3.99 of $0.89 pasta and a $1.99 pasta sauce. It feeds four and can be saved for lunch or another meal,’ she said.
‘Or can go even cheaper and make your own sauce from tinned tomatoes, tomato paste and herbs etc,’ another replied.
‘This would be good to get a couple of these and some rolls from Woolies and make your own meatball subs a lot cheaper,’ someone suggested.
‘Another cheap meal is called porcupine meatballs. Serve with some mash potato and a bag of frozen vegetables and you can make a family meal for under $15 easily for four adults,’ a mum shared.
