Chelsea announce Tiemoue Bakayoko is one of 13 players on their released list

Chelsea announce Tiemoue Bakayoko is one of 13 players on their released list in major summer clear out as Mauricio Pochettino takes the reins at Stamford Bridge

  • Tiemoue Bakayoko leaves Chelsea once his contract expires on June 30
  • The majority of the other departures are from Chelsea’s academy and scholars

Tiemoue Bakayoko is one of 13 players set to depart Chelsea on June 30.

The 28-year-old joined the Blues from AS Monaco back in 2017 and was a regular feature during his first season at the club.

Bakayoko made 43 appearances in the 2017/2018 campaign before being shipped out on loan for the remainder of his stay at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder had two spells with AC Milan, a stint at Napoli and a return to his old club Monaco for a single season.

A statement from Chelsea read: ‘We thank Tiemoue for his contribution during his season at Stamford Bridge.’

The full list of the departures are as follows: Derrick Abu, Prince Adegoke, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Nathan Baxter, Juan Carlos Familia-Castillo, Bryan Benjamin Fiabema, Joe Samuel Haigh, Henry Lawrence, Sam McClelland, Dujon Henriques Sterling, Amari Otieno Thomas Silko, Ethan James Wady and Jayden Darren George Wareham.

This comes at a time in which Chelsea are expected to clear out multiple members of their first team in order to make up funds from their heavy spending last season.

Homegrown stars Conor Gallagher, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Mason Mount and Callum Hudson-Odoi are all expected to depart this summer.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Kepa Arrizabalaga are unlikely to be part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans when he takes the reins at Chelsea next season.

Pochettino meets his team in early July to start pre-season preparations and is already partaking in regular meetings with former caretaker boss Frank Lampard to help cut down his bloated first team squad.
