Chelsea are continuing to shop Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Saudi Pro League clubs this summer as they seek to get the 34-year-old off their wage bill.

With the help of obliging Saudi clubs, the Blues have done a fine job getting rid of the deadwood in this transfer window, paving the way for new boss Mauricio Pochettino to fashion a coherent side.

But Aubameyang, who joined the club just five days before his former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel was booted from Stamford Bridge in 2022, is proving particularly difficult to budge on account of his high wages.

Therefore Chelsea are trying to drum up interest in the ex-Arsenal man from clubs in Saudi Arabia, who have shown no issue in splashing the cash on marquee names, according to Fabrizio Romano.

He notes that ‘talks are not advancing to final stages yet’ with any of the unspecified number of clubs interested and the main barrier to a move to an interested club in Europe is the striker’s high wage.

Aubameyang’s form at the end of the 2021-22 season earned a return to the Premier league

When Aubameyang joined Chelsea in September 2022, he did so on a reported two-year £160,000 per week salary.

The former Premier League golden boot winner has done little to justify the outlay, scoring just three goals in all competitions last season as Chelsea slumped to humiliating lows.

The unrest at Stamford Bridge is likely to have played a part in his disappointing showing, especially when set in contrast to his half-season cameo with Barcelona.

Aubameyang rediscovered his form in Spain after his four-year spell at the Emirates ended acrimoniously and netted 11 times in 17 La Liga games.

The veteran striker has reportedly been keen on a return to the Catalan giants, who replaced him with former Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski.
