Chelsea Clinton has fired back at trolls who claim that she resembles the puppet Howdy Doody.
The 38-year-old tweeted at ‘all the people’ who had compared her to the freckled redheaded puppet who starred in a children’s TV show in the 50s on Tuesday.
She singled out one user named Richard Rothchild who had tweeted a meme that showed Howdy Doody’s face photoshopped over Clinton’s with the caption: ‘Chelsea Clinton opens up about Donald Trump.’

The former first daughter’s tweet singled out a user named Richard Rothchild, who had posted a meme with showed Howdy Doody’s face photoshopped over Clinton’s with the caption: ‘Chelsea Clinton opens up about Donald Trump’ earlier on Tuesday
‘Thanks to Richard & all the people on @Twitter who’ve compared me to Howdy Doody,’ she wrote.
‘I now know a bit about him, including that he stood up to bullies & believed in being kind to animals.
‘I’m always happy to be on the side of allyship & kindness. Thanks again!’
Rothchild’s tweet was a response to one from Clinton earlier on Tuesday about seeing the play Runaways in New York City.
Clinton wrote: ‘Thanks to Richard & all the people on @Twitter who’ve compared me to Howdy Doody. I now know a bit about him, including that he stood up to bullies & believed in being kind to animals. I’m always happy to be on the side of allyship & kindness. Thanks again!’
Clinton’s graceful response reflects the fact that she’s no stranger to public scrutiny.
The former first daughter was just 12 years old when her father was elected president in 1992.
That same year, radio personality Rush Limbaugh said the preteen resembled a dog.
Last year Clinton surprised people by publicly defending President Donald Trump’s son Barron, 12, after the Daily Caller ran an article with the headline: ‘It’s High Time Barron Trump Starts Dressing Like He’s In the White House.’
She responded with a tweet saying: ‘It’s high time the media & everyone leave Barron Trump alone & let him have the private childhood he deserves.’
Barron’s mother, first lady Melania Trump, thanked her by tweeting: ‘Thank you @ChelseaClinton – so important to support all of our children in being themselves! #StopChildhoodBullying.’
