Chelsea Clinton takes children to Manhattan Lego store

As her mother made her long-awaited return to the spotlight by announcing her new book, Chelsea Clinton spent the weekend shying away from official business.

Instead, the mother-of-two indulged her young children with a visit to a Manhattan Lego store on Saturday.

Chelsea, 37, dressed down for the outing in jeans, a white and blue blouse and some well-worn nude wedges.

She went make-up free and added a bright orange baseball hat to her ensemble.

Clearly relishing the quality time with daughter Charlotte, two, and son Aidan, one, the former first daughter smiled widely as she made her way to the store.

She kept Aidan strapped to her chest in a baby carrier and pushed Charlotte along in a stroller. The children seemed equally excited about the excursion.

Chelsea Clinton was in high spirits as she took her daughter Charlotte, two, and son Aidan, one, to the Lego store in Manhattan’s Flatiron district on Saturday

Once inside the store on Manhattan’s 23rd street, Chelsea was seen encouraging young Aidan to feel his way around the plastic toys.

The store – one of two in the city – is near the family’s home in the Flatiron district.

The former first daughter has enjoyed a quiet summer after a whirlwind year of election campaigning and book promoting.

Earlier this month, Chelsea and her husband Marc Mezvinsky took some time out for a refreshing weekend in The Hamptons before the family jetted to Europe for their first overseas trip as a foursome.

They were seen making their way through London’s Heathrow Airport together at the start of the month and were later seen in Dublin.

It marked the end of a stint of book promotions for her children’s book She Persisted.

The 37-year-old kept her make-up free face hidden beneath an orange baseball cap and was casual in blue jeans and a blue and white blouse

Chelsea tenderly guided Aidan’s hand as he familiarized himself with one of the store’s famous statues

Marc is yet to land his next role after closing down the hedge fund investment firm he co-founded last year.

Aside from book promoting, Chelsea has been keeping herself busy on social media and, like the president, Twitter is her medium of choice.

This weekend she used it to decry the plight of endangered tigers and defend Trump’s new communications director Anthony Scaramucci.

Scaramucci, who has brought a tornado of scandal through the White House since taking over from Sean Spicer last week, had called on the media to cease reporting on his divorce from the mother of his two children Deidre.

In a tweet on Friday, he pleaded: ‘Leave civilians out of this. I can take the hits, but I would ask that you would put my family in your thoughts and prayers & nothing more.’

Chelsea supported his request, retweeting the original post and adding her on thoughts on the subject.

‘No child should be bullied or bothered-in real life or on social media-&certainly not by adults. Every child deserves the chance to be a kid,’ she wrote, referring to Scaramucci’s newborn son who his wife was pregnant with when she filed for divorce.

Among her many tweets over the weekend was one in which she defended the new White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci as he pleaded for privacy after having details of his divorce reported on

Is not the first time Chelsea has put her political beliefs aside to defend a member of Trump’s inner circle.

In January, she was among the most vocal in her criticism of cruel social media users who mocked the president’s 11-year-old son Barron and his appearance at the inauguration.

‘Barron Trump deserves the chance every child does-to be a kid. Standing up for every kid also means opposing POTUS policies that hurt kids,’ she said.

She has also been known to wage wars of words with Trump fans and the president himself online.

Earlier this month, Trump defended asking his daughter Ivanka to hold his seat at the G-20 summit by saying: ‘If Chelsea Clinton were asked to hold the seat for her mother, as her mother gave our country away, the Fake News would say CHELSEA FOR PRES!’

Chelsea rebutted immediately, writing: ‘Good morning Mr. President. It would never have occurred to my mother or my father to ask me.

‘Were you giving our country away? Hoping not.’
