Ex-England boss Fabio Capello claims Chelsea gave Juventus ‘a real lesson in football’ with their ‘proactive’ display – and insists the Blues’ performance shows a ‘big difference in quality’ between the Premier League and Serie A

Fabio Capello lauded Chelsea after they delivered ‘a real lesson in football’ to Juventus in their 4-0 Champions League thrashing of the Serie A giants.
Trevor Chalobah opened the scoring for the reigning European champions before fellow academy products Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi scored early in the second half.
Timo Werner came off the bench to add a fourth in stoppage time as the Blues cruised through to the last 16 of the competition, but were left fretting following injuries to N’Golo Kante and Ben Chilwell.

Juventus had already qualified for the last 16 but it was a tough watch for their former player and manager Capello as a pundit on Sky Sport Italia.
But the former England boss could not help but gush over Thomas Tuchel’s tactics at Stamford Bridge, and insisted the display showed the difference between the top clubs in England and Italy, where ‘you play too much with the goalkeeper.’
‘I think this was a real lesson in football from Chelsea,’ Capello told Sky Sport Italia via The Sun. ‘Let’s take Liverpool for example, they play aggressively and vertically.
‘And tonight we saw Chelsea press, run and never pass the ball backwards. They never start from the back, instead they are always proactive, always forward, no passes to the goalkeeper.

‘These are rhythms that the Italian league is no longer used to. There is a big difference in speed and quality compared to our league.
‘There is another pressure. Then here are the tackles, you enter hard, the referee does not whistle for fouls that would be whistled here [in Serie A].
‘In Italy you play too much with the goalkeeper. I think they [Liverpool and Chelsea] are two German coaches, maybe we need to learn from them and update ourselves.
‘A coach used to say, ”How you train is you play.” When there is great intensity and competitive spirit and you are not used to it, it becomes difficult. When you train with not enough rhythm in the end you get these results in Europe.’

The Italian media however did not hold back on their damning criticism of Juventus after their thumping in west London on Tuesday night.
Massimiliano Allegri’s men were disappointing and as such the Italian news publications have let them know about it with Tuttosport blasting them as ‘shameless’ and ‘unwatchable’.
Juventus sit second in Group H – level on points with Chelsea at 12 apiece after five matches.
However, they have a worst head-to-head record (winning 1-0 in Turin, before losing 4-0 in London) meaning they can only finish as group winners if Chelsea drop points at Zenit St Petersburg on December 8 and they beat Malmo at home.
