Chelsea Handler is under fire for a recent tweet in which she joked that Senator Lindsey Graham is a closeted homosexual.
The comedian posted her comment in the wake of comments the lifelong bachelor made on Tuesday during a bipartisan meeting in immigration that President Trump decided to invite the press to attend.
‘Most fascinating meeting I’ve been involved with in twenty plus years in politics. I very much appreciate @POTUS @realdonaldtrump attitude, demeanor, and desire to get something done that will make our nation more secure – while being fair to the #Dreamers,’ tweeted Graham after the meeting.
Handler watched the meeting herself, and seemed to find it equally fascinating but for much different reasons, as she tweeted: ‘Holy, f***, Holy f***. I just [watched] the video of trumps bipartisan ‘meeting’ yesterday. Hey, @LindsayGraham, what kind of d*** sucking video do they have on you for you 2 be acting like this? Wouldn’t coming out be more honorable?’
A number of Twitter users, many of whom appeared to be Trump supporters based on their user names, bios and avatars, quickly lashed out at Handler for what they deemed a ‘homophobic’ comment.
GLAAD, the Human Rights Coalition and reps for Handler did not respond to multiple requests for comment from DailyMail.com.
‘@chelseahandler & her disgusting tweet are the perfect example of who the far left “tolerance & inclusion” crowd really is, the mask is off! This is the kind of garbage that’s usually unchallenged & often encouraged by many,’ wrote a man whose Twitter handle is Michael – Thank You President Trump.
‘Keep being a voice for the Democrats while you use homosexuality as an insult. The @GOP will gladly take the LGBT votes,’ read another comment.
‘Chelsea Handler sounds more & more anti-gay. Seriously, just because she disagrees with someones politics?’ commented one woman.
And Phillip Crawford Jr wrote: ‘Any bets on whether #LGBT groups such as @GLAAD or @HRC will call out @ChelseaHandler for using alleged $gay behavior — a “dick sucking video” — as a demeaning attack in questioning the honor of @LindseyGraham? It’s a loathsome Tweet.’
Her questionable tweet aside, Handler is a noted LGBT ally and major donor to a number of charities that aid gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons.
A number of the comedian’s detractors were quick to point out however that there would be a far louder response had a similar comment been posted by a member of the GOP or President Trump himself.
GLAAD did not respond to multiple emails from DailyMail.com requesting comment on Handler’s tweet despite it’s sharp criticism of Ivanka Trump back in June when she tweeted her support for LGBTQ Americans during the annual Pride festivities.
‘I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy,’ wrote Ivanka.
The GLAAD Twitter account quickly retweeted Ivanka, and wrote: ‘Watch what the Administration does – not what it says. #WeResist’
Prior to her ‘coming out’ tweet on Wednesday, Handler also seemed to be taking aim at Graham by tweeting: ‘What kind of impact do all these Trump puppets have when they resign or retire from “public service,” without speaking up and telling the truth about why. You were supposed to be serving your country. This is your country that you were born in. Is there no loyalty at all?’
Senator Graham had praised President Trump on Monday as well while appearing on The View.
‘He beat me like a drum. You can say anything you want about the guy. I said he was a race-baiting, xenophobic, religious bigot. I ran out of things to say. He won. Guess what. He’s our President now,’ said Graham.
‘In my view, he’s my president, and he’s doing a really good job on multiple fronts.’
