Chelsea ‘identify Andreas Pereira as a potential replacement for Mason Mount’

Chelsea are considering a move for Andreas Pereira’s as a possible replacement for Mason Mount, but could face competition from Atletico Madrid and PSG. 

Contract talks between England midfielder Mount and the club have stalled, and there’s a real possibility the academy star could leave Stamford Bridge on a free when his contract expires in 2024. 

Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City have shown interest in Mount, leaving Chelsea targeting Fulham midfielder Pereira as a possible replacement and according to ESPN are monitoring his situation at Craven Cottage. 

The Brazilian moved to Fulham from Manchester United last summer in search of first-team football and has enjoyed an impressive first season in west London. 

He has has scored three goals in 32 appearances so far this campaign, and only five players in the Premier League have registered more than Pereira’s six assists. 

Contract talks have stalled between Mount and Chelsea ahead of his deal expiring in 2024 

Fulham value the 27-year-old between £25million and £35million, and has a contract until 2026 with the option of another year, after moving to Craven Cottage for a fee of around £10million last summer. 

There is a relegation clause of £15million in his contract, but with Marco Silva’s side riding high in ninth place, that would only come into play if the Cottagers struggled and were relegated next season.  

Pereira’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed across Europe as well, with both Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also interested in the attacker, who has been capped once by Brazil. 

He as seen as a more affordable and cost-effective option for PSG as they navigate their Financial Fair Play concerns. 

The Brazilian’s future may depend on the future of Fulham boss Marco Silva, who he credits for getting the best out of him this season.

Silva has turned Fulham from Championship contenders to a top-half Premier League team with European ambitions in just a year, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by clubs who could be looking for a new manager next season. 

Pereira is believed to be happy in west London, but could find the opportunity to join one of Europe’s leading clubs hard to turn down.

He was applauded off following Fulham’s 3-1 FA Cup quarter-final defeat to his former club Manchester United on Sunday, after having an hand in his side’s opening goal. 

The goal looked good enough to see Fulham book a semi-final birth at Old Trafford, only to lose the tie in a dramatic five minute spell that saw three Fulham sent off and two United goals to see Erik ten Hag’s side book a date at Wembley with Brighton.
