Chelsea legend John Terry looked in some distress as he bled from his right nipple in the closing stages of the London Marathon.

The multiple-time Premier League winner was among several former top-flight pros taking part in the famous annual event on Sunday.

Terry could be seen walking at around 21 miles with a pained expression on his face as a stream of what appeared to be blood ran down his white t-shirt. The 44-year-old also looked to be limping.

He was running to raise money for the charity Rays of Sunshine, which helps children and young people living in the UK with a life-threatening or life-limiting illness.

A world record 56,000 runners were expected to participate in the 26.2-mile race that started at Greenwich Park, snaked along the River Thames before finishing on The Mall. Temperatures were expected to rise up to 20 degrees Celsius in the capital.

Alongside the former England captain was ex-Chelsea assistant manager Jody Morris. The pair had been noticed by many on social media after they spotted by the cameras earlier on in the route.

In addition to Terry and Morris, ex-Aston Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell as well as former England internationals Danny Mills and Jack Wilshere – who recently took temporary charge of Championship side Norwich City – were also running.

Juventus and Italy legend Leonardo Bonucci was also been in London for the event.

Data from the London Marathon’s official tracking app showed that Terry had the edge of his former central defensive rival, clocking in with a time just over 5 hours, compared to Bonucci’s 5:02:09.

The pair were a long way off the record set by a former Premier League player, which is held by former Scotland international Christian Dailly. He recorded a rapid time of three hours and six minutes.

But for an even more impressive mark, Terry need not look any further than his old Blues colleague Arjen Robben, who completed the Rotterdam marathon in an insanely speedy time of 2:58:33.
