Chelsea youngster Ian Maatsen set to join Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan after Neil Lennon’s Celtic failed to sign the 18-year-old

Chelsea’s young full-back Ian Maatsen will join Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan deal.  

The Dutch 18-year old had interest from Celtic earlier in the window, but will complete is first loan spell to gain first-team experience at The Valley stadium instead. 

Chelsea have high aspirations for Maatsen, who joined the club in 2018 from PSV Eindhoven and earned his first-team debut this season in their 2019 7-1 Carabao Cup victory.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer is also in talks with Crystal Palace over a permanent transfer for 25-year-old centre back Ryan Inniss.

The 6ft 5ins centre back has had ten loan spells during his time at Palace and is keen to settle at a club.

Inniss signed his first professional contract at Selhurst Park almost nine years ago, but has only featured twice for the first-team since. 

His first appearance for the Eagles came during Palace’s unusually long penalty shootout defeat to Bournemouth. The centre-back was, however, successful from the spot. 

While his second outing came against Swansea in August 2018.
