Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu has undergone surgery on the knee injury that forced him to miss this month’s Super Bowl win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The 26-year-old tore his ACL in Kansas City’s victory against the Baltimore Ravens in last month’s AFC Championship Game.

He was among the unfortunate players who had to watch as his teammates secured a third Super Bowl crown in five years in Las Vegas.

On Tuesday evening, the defensive end revealed he had gone under the knife and was beginning a long journey back to the field.

‘Surgery was a success. I appreciate all the well wishes and prayers,’ the 26-year-old wrote alongside several pictures from the hospital bed.

‘I’ve been through the dark before and God has always guided me to the light this will be no different. THE JOURNEY BEGINS.

Omenihu added: ‘Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you” this is the Lord’s declaration plans for your welfare, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’

The defensive end appears to face an uncertain future in Kansas City and, over recent days, Omenihu has posted several cryptic messages on social media.

‘Want to feel appreciated,’ he wrote on X. ‘Didn’t have a full season and put up numbers. Does that go unnoticed? Might have to do it again to get what I want at the end.’

The 26-year-old signed a two-year, $16million contract with the Chiefs last March but hinted he is looking for a new deal.

Omenihu played little over half of Kansas City’s defensive snaps last season after missing the end of the season through injury and the early part of the campaign through suspension after violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

During the AFC Championship Game, Omenihu made a key strip-sack of Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson, which was recovered by teammate George Karlaftis.

Soon, though, Omenihu left the game to have his right knee evaluated.
