Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is having ‘the worst season of his career’ says NFL analyst Danny Kanell after Kansas City is beaten by the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas Day

Following the Chiefs 20-14 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Christmas, NFL analyst Danny Kanell said Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes is having the worst season of his NFL career.

‘We’re watching Patrick Mahomes endure the worst season of his career,’ said Kanell.

‘Career high interceptions with 14, six losses the most he’s endured in the regular season, and we’re talking about three home losses at Arrowhead.

‘The AFC Championship game to this point has been the Arrowhead invitational, for the first time if they get their they’ll have to go through a road opponent to get to the Super Bowl.’

‘I think this team is lacking in identity, I think they miss Eric Bieniemy. I think this team has been lackadaisical and once again a couple three-and-outs to start the game and then when they try to flip that switch it’s too late. I think this team has some serious issues that are not gonna get corrected this season.’

Kansas City’s biggest problem this season has been the lack of production and consistency from a young wide receiver group that has performed below expectations throughout the season.

The Chiefs most productive player listed as a wide receiver has been rookie second round draft pick Rashee Rice who has recorded 74 catches, 811 yards, and seven touchdowns this season.

Skyy Moore, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling had all been expected to take important steps in their development and become bigger contributors in the passing game this season, but all have failed to do so.

Kansas City has been led mainly by eight-time Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce who has picked up 90 receptions, 968 yards, and five touchdowns.

But Kelce’s frustration seemed to boil over during the loss to Las Vegas after he slammed his helmet before having words with head coach Andy Reid.

NFL Network analyst and Hall-of-Famer Kurt Warner said the loss to the Raiders the ‘worst overall game,’ for the Chiefs offense during the Mahomes era.

As Kanell also mentioned the Chiefs offense may be suffering from the loss of former offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, who now holds the same position with the Washington Commanders.
