Child benefit chaos as HMRC says some parents won’t receive payments today

Some parents have missed out on their child benefit payment today due to a problem with HMRC.

Child benefit is paid to parents to help cover the cost of childcare and is usually paid every four weeks.

However, many parents who checked their bank account this morning found that the payment had not been made.

HMRC confirmed that there is an ‘issue’ with the child benefit payments.

Missing payment: HMRC confirmed some customers had not received their child benefit payment

In a statement on X, it said: ‘We’re sorry that some customers’ child benefit payments have not arrived as scheduled and we are working urgently to resolve the issue.

‘There’s no need for customers to call us and we will provide updates here as soon as they are available.’

One social media user said: ‘I haven’t received my child benefit payment today, now overdrawn as my bills have come out. When will I get my money?!’

Another parent said that the missing payment meant that she had not been able to buy her son a bus pass to get to school.
